I don't often but let's give all credit to the LTA

As I put above, CHarlie Swaine is JWR 1036

and beat the 12th seed, JWR 15

Several of us noted in this forum how well Charlie played at the nationals in spring

But he lost in the SFs, and didn't get anything as a result

But the LTA must know him, and have seen how he did in the nationals, and gave him a wildcard

(even though he lost in the first round of qualis back in March at Loughborough, for example)

He also got one last week to Roehampton but lost to the Finnish boy in R1

But, goodness, didn't he do well today - and thoroughly justified the LTA's faith in him

 Thank you CD

 Such a great story!

Charlie is a very talented player and yesterday he showed what he is capable of. The reason why he is not high on the rankings is the reason why so many out there struggle to climb the rankings: funding. We are lucky that the LTA has been increasing the number of itfs in the UK and that they reward players with WCs and believe on their potential. However travelling abroad, etc to compete is a very expensive matter and a huge barrier to many players.

I might be a biased here as I know Charlie but what he showed on court yesterday is not surprising to me.

Thanks for the insight ! Lets hoping he can build on this and is able to get appropriate funding to support his talent.

I'm confused... the ITF site shows Carlie Swain losing 6-2 7-5 ... the opposite of what is being reported here...??

Yes, I saw that but it's wrong

The Wimbledon results site has it right

By the next rain break Maxim Mrva had claimed the second set 6-2 against Viktor, while Kai-Luca and Conor are both a set down.

Viktor will be disappointed with his third set against Mrva - too many unforced errors against a player who possesses some nice touch shots, but looks more of a clay courter. Viktor lost 1-6 6-2 6-2

Kai-Luca took the second set 6-4 before the next rain delay, but Conor trails by a set and 4-0

Mark Ceban takes the first set in the breaker and now play suspended. Was worried for him having raced into a 4-0 lead in the set to then have it go 4-4. But bounced back took it to the breaker and got over the line.

Yes, Preda the 5th seed was the better player for much of the first set, after that initial phase, and will be tough to beat tomorrow.  But Mark played a good breaker

Mark seemed very very up for it

He did very well because, as you say, the Preda was definitely coming back on him

I was impressed with Mark at Roehampton and I still am as he has taken a set off the 5th seed. Like his intent to play attacking tennis even if it means a few more errors. He also likes coming to the net and his volleying will only improve the more he plays. And he is still only 15 mixing it with the best ranked
