One doubles quarterfinal (two if you count the boys) was not the return I was expecting in the juniors events. But maybe it's good that we have raised expectations.
Yes. You've got to believe that the LTA are pretty disappointed with these results
Particularly in the girls - we have two top-10 girls, and they both lost in the L32
(and Roehampton was poor too)
Sometimes you can argue that it's always harder to do well at the home slam and players do better at a foreign slam (Emerson Jones may be about to be a good indicator of this)
But our girls did poorly at Roland Garros too !
Hardly a catastrophe - but there's not much in the way of positives from the main girls this week (even if Mimi & Mika win the doubles) and there's no point pretending
The boys seemed to me more in line with expectations, and exceeded it in places. It's very rare for a boy three years young (like Mark) to really challenge for the title - he did really very well for his age. Great show. (And the boys' coaches at LTA can still sit pretty from last year )
It's the first time since 2017 that we don't have a GB juniors quarterfinalist. Think Charlie and Mark can be pleased with their efforts, and the rest it's onto the hard courts.
All the best to Mika and Mimi. I am assuming Mika must be doing some things fairly right for the pair to have reached the SF here.
Yes, you've got a point
The commentators really went a little over the top
I mean, it was interesting to hear the detailed technical analysis (after all, you don't need expert commentators just to say the score and 'c'mon, girls'). Especially interesting in the middle of the match, where you can see it in action, so to speak
And it's true that Mika was having a bit of a shocker
But they DID go on, even in the last game, and then afterwards, wouldn't let it drop
I've read some other people saying the same thing - it doesn't really matter if the winning volley and serve return are dodgy - just be happy they went in And don't then go in for a long list of what needs to be done on the practice court before tomorrow - really, it was like listening to your headmaster lecturing you as a schoolkid
Watching Iva Jovic (2007) versus Emerson Jones (2008) in the girls semifinals. Great ball striking, great intensity. Not looking to compare with our girls this week, but there's a real focus.
Interesting to hear Iva's (British?) coach giving her regular instructions, about moving her feet coming up the court.

Yes, intense match
These girls are quite young too - Emerson born in July 2008 and Iva born in Dec. 2007

Jovic now being told to press in the middle to eliminate the angles. Let's see.
The crowd is so pro Iva - am impressed that Emerson is managing to shut out.
I thought Emerson was so, so aggressive today - it obviously really was her gameplan - apparently she loves and models herself on Sabalenka (which is only funny because you couldn't get two women tennis players who are more different in size )
But just threw herself into every ball, and with great timing and commitment
Jamrichova is winning the other SF easily at the moment, as expected
The Court 12 match before our girls in the semis dubs has just finished early with a retirement so the girls should be on very soon

Quality tennis today and a good advert for the junior game. Should be a good final.
the commentator has just opened his mouth - to introduce us to the GB girls and the "Swiss/Czech" pair - apart from the fact that Stusek is German ......

You wait over 40 years for an all-British pair to reach the Wimbledon final and we then get 2 in successive years. First set was close to 4-4 but then Mimi/Mika ran away with it - the Czech/German combination struggling to cope with their power. They won't have the same power advantage in the final as it will be either Jones+ or Jovic+. The only British winner in this event was Lizzie Jelfs (with South African partner) in 1994.
In the singles it is a repeat of the Australian Open final of Renata Jamrichova against Emerson Jones. Renata won easily in Melbourne, but playing away may help Emerson
Doubles SF
(7) Stojsavljevic/Xu d. Pastikova/Stusek (CZE/GER) 6-4 6-1
The final will be against the strong regular partnership of Tyra Grant and Iva Jovic. They won the Australian Open without dropping a set, haven't dropped a set here, reached the Rpland Garros final (and won Roehampton/Orange Bowl titles to boot)
