Under 12 qualifying started today. There are 2 round robin groups of 4, followed by matches to determine final placing. We narrowly lost to Austria (Kai Max Hodkinson lost 6-3 7-5, Frederick Fabricius won 6-1 7-5 before Frederick combined with Oskar Laskowski, going down 10-8 in the match tiebreak.
In the second round robin match the under 12s beat Germany 2-1 (Kai Max losing 2-6 6-7(7), Frederick winning 6-3 7-5 with Frederick/Oskar winning 6-3 7-6(4) ). It means they need to beat undefeated Slovakia tomorrow to have a chance of a top 2 spot to contest the qualification play-offs
In the third round robin Slovakia proved too strong, with both Oskar and Frederick losing in 3 sets. As a result they finish third in their group and play-off for 5th spot overall in their qualifying section tomorrow
Qualifying started today for the under 16s and under 18s, with most attention on the former, since Junior Davis Cup places are at stake. The team of Mark Ceban, Rhys Lawlor and Leo Wright comfortably saw off Armenia 2-0 (Rhys winning 6-2 6-0 and Mark 6-3 6-4), but they need to find a way past top qualifying seeds Poland tomorrow to reach the European finals.
The under 18 team of Zechariah Hamrouni, Maximilan Carrier and Louis Hull take on Slovenia today, with Croatia awaiting the winners.
Good effort from the under 16s - who had a team of 2009s, still eligible next year, which is unusual for the boys event. They play hungary for third in the group tomorrow.
The under 18s lost 2-1 to Slovenia (Max won his singles in 3, Zech lost in 2 and the pair lost the doubles in straights). They are currently playing Ireland for 5th place (1-1 at the moment)
The under 16s finished third in their group after a 2-1 victory over Hungary (Leo lost in straights, Mark won in 3 then Rhys/Leo took the deciding doubles in straight sets).
The under 18s finished bottom of their group following a 2-1 defeat to Ireland (Max won in straights, Zech lost in 2 and Max/Louis lost the doubles in 2)
