Eden pulled back from, I think it was, 1-5 in the 2nd to level the scores and then lost.

I have read online a suggestion that the LTA gave out 6 wild cards in error, then it was to late to give wild cards into qualifying which is why Heather missed out on playing at all.

The top 4 seeds in the main draw have byes so surely this could have been rectified?

Unless that comes from a reputable journalist or an inside source I wouldn't believe anything read online. Social media (including forums like this) are full of incorrect information, conspiracy theories and people claiming stuff that simply isn't true. I'm not saying it isn't necessarily true but I'd be more inclined to take it with a huge pinch of salt. The LTA knew there were only 2 WCs to give to British women (that don't qualify for an exemption WC) - it's on their Grass WC policy document.

The problem with the theory is that Marni would not have been able to accept the WC without declining the Wimby qWC (since that hadn't been upgraded) and there is 0% chance of that happening. But it raises the question of how Marni was included in the Comms in the first place.

I don't think it actually matters whether the LTA (a) actually gave out 6 wildcards in error or (b) just erroneously issued a statement, listing incorrect wildcards

they obviously did one or the other

I guess the second is less serious in that it implies it's just the Media/communications arm that messed up (although they got their info from somewhere, presumably?)

Whereas the first implies the main technical body got confused and forgot to read their own policy document (which is perfectly possibly)

But it's pretty feeble overall

Heather has played at Eastbourne every year since 2010 which  was the year of her senior debut. Missing for the first time.

I wonder if Heather is injured. Doesn't make any sense that she didn't get a singles qualifying wild card or entered into doubles.

She withdrew from doubles for the last 2 weeks with injury so probably wants to have a week off before Wimbledon to not aggravate it.

And interesting that no wildcards awarded to the doubles at all this week. Organisers have just let in additional onsite entries, which is how Maia and Harriet are in.

Just a thought.
What if Marni was offered a wildcard for Eastbourne as well as a Wimbledon MD wildcard but then decided to decline Eastbourne in order to prepare for Wimbledon main draw??
She could have a niggle from Ilkley as we all know what she is like with injuries.

it will be good to see what has happened when all is revealed.

From my experience of working in Comms, I suspect it will probably amount to be nothing more complex than a misunderstanding/mistake. But we'll see!

Ranah competing well but a little overmatched by a very solid top pro. Absolutely not a million miles away though.

3-6 *4-4

She did actually have a point for 4-1* in the second set, but Linette broke back.
