Fantastic. Very proud moments for them both. While Busca and Bogdan were comparatively good draws for this level (Bogdan I think was a doubt to play any grass at all), 'this level' is still miles above what they are used to. So to actually go out there, play good tennis, and get the job done is so, so impressive.
What happens if one of the four seeds who have a bye to the next round withdraw?
If they withdraw before the start I'm assuming they reshuffle the seeds (with Cirstea, then Boulter moving into the seeded positions, but if the tournament has started, do LLs get a bye? Or do the R1 winners sail through to the 3rd round?

My interpretation of the rulebook. If the schedule of play for the first day has been released and play hasn't started then the seeds are reshuffled as you say. If play has commenced on the first match then a LL takes the spot. If it is later than that I presume a walkover is given.
She's certainly been looking more than back on track this year after a year or two that on the face of it seemed a wee bit disappointing, although I am sure I did read that she had been making quite a lot of changes to her game.
So Ella, just like Ranah, stymied from competing in the Wimbledon Q WCs play-offs by winning elsewhere last week, wins again, and both heck against top 100 players.
Ella too will now move into the top 600, and provisionally be our 2nd ranked teen after Ranah. Let's see what the younger teens can do in Wimbledon Q next week.

Ella and Ranah's performances over the last couple of weeks have put a smile on my face. Two players both in their first year out of juniors who have both been overlooked (of course Ranah's been injured) in favour of younger more talented players.
The idea that two Brits who hadn't made it into Wimbledon qualifying could both beat Top 100 players irrespective of their dislike of grass.
Still don't mind that the three youngsters have been given wild cards into qualies (though think Rajecki should definitely have got one automatically) however they end up doing. All good experience. Up to Ella and Ranah to take these performances on to other surfaces.

A lucky loser can replace a seed with a bye until the moment the players are due to walk on court.
