It's an aside but the French 2009-born boy, Moise Kouame, is having an absolute blast here
He's a wildcard (obviously) and by far the youngest player
But has great poise, and loves the crowd, loves being the centre of attention
As well as having some super tennis - lots of power for a kid his age, but also some surprises
AND he's beaten the 4th seed, beaten the 14th seed, and is into the QFs.....
Talking of players born in 2009, Kristina Penickova (one of the Penickova twins) has reached the girls singles semifinals at the age of 14. So Klugman already has players on her heels!
Oh yes, I've been watching bits of some of her matches.
In fact Kristina has done better than Hannah
At age 14, the best that Hannah achieved was the QF in the US Open
At age 14, Kristina has made the SF of RG
Kristina and her twin both played the U14 Junior Wimbly event last year - and were pretty poor - neither came through the group stages, from recollection
But Kristina has grown a lot, put on muscle too, and hits a powerful shot now (not much else, it's true, but it gets you quite a long way)
And then the Czech coach obviously issued orders as Laura dropped back to the baseline and both her and Alena started peppering Mika at the net, and Mika held her own a little bit but was never going to survive, and the tide turned
But a reasonable effort - and better doubles than the Hannah/Mimi match
In the singles Charlie's doubles partner ended Moise Kouame's run, but he now comes up against an Italian, Lorenzo Carboni, who doesn't play juniors, but gets in on his ATP ranking. Viktor's conqueror Kaylan Bigun is in the other semi against the second seed Joel Schwaerzler, who is already in the ATP top 400. With the girls Kristina is joined by another American, Tyra Grant and two top Czechs Laura Samson and Tereza Valentova (WTA 337). Tereza easily beat top seeded Renata Jamrichova today
To summarise in the doubles:
Boys Doubles QF
(2) Cina/Sakamoto (ITA/JPN) d. (6) Frydrych/Rottgering (GBR/NED) w/o
Girls Doubles QF
(1) Kovackova/Samson (CZE) d. (7) Sonobe/Stojsavljevic (JPN/GBR) 7-5 7-6(5)
(5) Jones/Paganetti (AUS/ITA) d. (2) Klugman/Xu 6-4 7-5

Thanks CD. Will be interesting to see her play at Wimby

Yes, I'm not expecting much (but may well be wrong )
Even watching her this morning, she needs quite a lot of time to get set on the ball
But it's pretty impressive on clay - and she and her twin are a formidable doubles team (though her twin will have to boost her ranking a bit to get in)

And she wasn't that far off from a place in the Roland Garros final.

Absolutely. She ran it very close. Laura Samson had a little more variety in her game but Kristina put up a great effort.
