Other events, 2024 - week 20

Well, Isaac might have played well in Sweden, having squeaked in, but what I find slightly strange is that I can't see him in the Nationals - not this year in the U16s (where Scott and Eric and Niall etc all made it in even though playing up)

And, more obviously, I also can't see him in 2022 or 2023

So it's either a one-off or he's miles better than his ranking/rating and - frankly - what has the LTA been doing?

Hes been part of the 14U national pathway for a while. Attended the invitational match plays/camps and competed in the 14U National grade 1 and grade 2s. Hasnt had any notable results though in those. Ranked top 10 in GB (not that that means much!)

Thanks, Rose

That seems to imply, if I understand right, that these results are a sudden improvement? i.e. he's been on the radar for a while but not getting any major results (hence not even making the nationals???
I find that hard to fathom, though - I mean, not even the qualis of the nationals?
But, whatever, it's all suddenly clicked and fallen into place?

NB He lost easily this morning against Scott, but it's still been a great week

Ranking isnt high enough for him to get in the 16U nationals qualifiers (not even in top 100 in that age group ) and results not good enough to justify a wildcard. Didnt compete for a couple of months last summer so not sure if was injured. Hes always been there under the surface in the domestic tournaments but this is the first big result hes had

Thanks but I meant last year and the year before

I realised he'd have been very unlikely to have made the U16s this year but I can't see him on the nationals in 2023 or 2022 - unless I'm missing him? It's that that I find bizarre

J60 Latvia

Congrats to Abi Redman who takes the doubles title, alongside Nahir Dogan (TUR)

This is Abi's first doubles title at J60 level (she has one previously at J30 level)

And both Tegan and Conor have made the finals in the singles, so good luck to them both

 And it's two more !!!!

Conor (2007) clocks up another singles title here, winning 7-5 7-5

This is Conor's third singles title in Latvia in the last few weeks - wonder if the organisers are getting tired of him ? biggrin

(At least he left the doubles for someone else this time)

Another nice rankings boost coming

And

Tegan (2008) wins the title, very easily, 2 & 0

I think this might be Tegan's first singles title

This will be 55 new points and a big boost for her ranking too

Three titles - well done, kids !

Just saw sadly Niall lost 7-6 in the third. Was looking the favourite to win the tournament after lorimer lost so it is a shame! Glad there is one Brit in the final so well done Watson

At the U14 Cat 1 Scott could claim the double, as he and Eric won the doubles final against Niall+

In summary for the singles semis Scott beat Isaac 6-1 6-2 while Niall lost to Evan Giurescu 5-7 6-2 6-7(6) As a result the French boy will become the highest ranked 2011. The girls final is between Israeli Ofir Manhard and Daniella's conqueror Maria Pop.

Really pleased for Scott

I said in the Kungens Kanna thread a month or so ago that Scott had beautiful shot construction but often had no idea where his opponent was or where the space was - i.e. he made it hard on himself when he really had the match in his pocket.

But that's exactly what experience can help with, especially at this age.

It doesn't take much, just a bit of guidance

Will be really ineresting to see all the lads in the U14 nationals - as Osacriyan says, there's an interesting batch

(And also whoever ends up playing in the U14 Junior Wimbly event)
