Boys & Girls: J300 Santa Croce Sull'Arno, Italy, clay (Week 20)

There is a strong field for the penultimate top Italian event before next week's Milan J500.  Mika Stojsavljevic plays a Special Exempt, in because she won the St Poelten J200 yesterday.  Allegra Korpanec Davies lost in qualifying.  There may be a live score link from the host website (it currently links to live scores from last year)

Boys R1 (L32)

Charlie Robertson v (WC) Matteo Sciahbasi (ITA)

Viktor Frydrych v Maxwell Exsted (USA)

Girls R1 (L32)

(1) Mingge Xu v Claire An (USA)

(6) Mika Stojsavljevic v (SE) Yiru Chen (CHN)

Hannah Klugman would have been 1seed but PFLWMDed.

Hopefully because her team considered that her 4 women's matches last week were enough preparation for the upcoming J500 in Milan, and RG. But may be injured.

Good turnaround from Mimi who won 1-6, 6-1, 6-0

Mika lost to a girl who's been playing red clay all month, and just won her last J200 tournament.

Mika hasnt had hardly any clay court practice so no surprise there. Glad to see Mimi got her mojo back after her successful run on clay in Bucharest. I wonder if she is finding it more difficult to find the motivation for juniors? Not sure, but I think she is one of our best junior prospects moving forward on clay.

In an article on the website Mimi is quoted as having asked Henry Searle for advice about playing here as he was a semi finalist here last year.

The language is comical at times eg re Mika ''a tennis player as powerful as she is foul''.

Apparently no-one from here has ever won in' the 43 years of glorious history' of the tournament but perhaps the favourit Xu will be able to break this jinx.smile

Mimi crashed out today but Charlie edged a third set tiebreak to keep British interest in the singles alive. His reward is a crack at the 7th seed, who won a set off Brandon Nakashima (ATP72) in qualifying for the Madrid Open recently.

Boys R2

Charlie Robertson d. Anas Mazdrashkki (BUL) 3-6 6-2 7-6(6)

QF

Charlie Robertson v (7) Reda Bennani (MAR)

Girls R2

Yelyzaveta Kotliar (UKR) d. (1) Mingge Xu 6-3 6-1

Charlie unsurprisingly found the Moroccan too tough, while Mimi just lost out in doubles to end British interest here

Boys QF

(7) Reda Bennani (MAR) d. Charlie Robertson 6-4 6-2

Girls Doubles SF

(2) Aristanbekova/Zhiyenbayeva (KAZ) d. Buchnik/Xu (ISR/GBR) 5-7 6-4 [10-7]
