The finals are set at the U14 Category 1 event in Slovakia, and we have 3 of the 4 finalists. Most of the group is going on to a Category 1 event in Romania next week (not Megan)

Boys SFs:

(5) Niall Pickerd-Barua d. (3) Richard Krizan (SVK) 6-3 6-4

Girls SFs:

(11) Megan Knight d. Eva Kaliadina (***) 6-2 4-6 6-4
(7) Darina Matvejeva (LAT) d. (2) Daniella Britton 6-2 6-1

That's brilliant

Eva Kaliadina is also the 5th seed, and born 2010 (whereas Megan is 2011), so that's a super win

And the boys are just hitting it out of the park :)

And Conor does the double !

After winning the doubles yesterday, he's gone on to take the singles title today.

Conor, top seed, beat the 2nd seed, 6-3 6-2

Another title for Eric in the U14 Slovakia Cat 1 strengthens his position at the top of the rankings. With Category 1 events being the highest scorers in the next few weeks he is likely to continue as TE1 for the next few weeks and avoid needing to qualify for one of the Wimbledon U14 championships European spots. Megan lost out to the Latvian girl, by a similar score to her Auray semi-final against her last year.

Boys F

(1) Eric Lorimer d. (5) Niall Pickerd-Barua 1-6 6-4 6-1

Girls F:

(7) Darina Matvejeva (LAT) d. (11) Megan Knight 6-3 6-2

Well done Eric! Lots of points for Megan and Niall too. Where does that leave Niall in terms of U14 wimbledon - will he get a WC? Also where does that leave Niall in the TE rankings (must be knocking on the door at the top?)

Leo unfotunately lost his singles final in the J30 in Finland

Still a very good week for the 2009-er, taking the dubs title and finalist in singles

The Wimbledon U14 Championships are restricted to 16 boys and girls.  Last year 8 qualified at specific tournaments (2 of the events being in the UK) while 8 were invited by a Committee tasked with assessing the 8 best boys and girls.  The top girls have started playing ITFs, so are easier to compare globally than the boys.   Its very unlikely therefore that the TE1 boy would be seen as outside the top 8 in the world.  Niall has most of his points this year so is second in the race to Monte Carlo but 8th in the overall rankings (should rise to 4th or 5th).  I would be surprised if they offered 2 places to Brits on top of those available via qualification

Thanks, David

My knowledge of all this is really hotchpotch (as always) but I saw this page about the Copa Cosat Cup which, I know from last year, was one of the quali competitions for the U14 Wimbledon Championship

The thing I was very surprised about, though, was that it says:

"Damazio defeated Argentine Demián Agustín Luna in the final by 4-6, 6-3 and 7-5, in a closely contested match between both players, who had previously dominated the South American Tour in their category. Doldán, meanwhile, beat the surprise of the tournament, the Venezuelan Claudia Chacón, 6-4 and 6-1.

The four finalists qualified for The U14 Championships, an international grass-court tournament that will take place in Wimbledon during the second week of the British Grand Slam."

(I didn't remember an event having 4 spaces)

Also, it's a lovely photo, but 14 ? Goodness, I'm gettinng old

Speaking of qualifying events for the 14U Wimbledon, does anyone know why the TE grass event has been moved to Raynes Park this year?
