Some of our top juniors are involved in the third J500 event of the year. Hannah's opponent in round 1 has reached the semis in her last 2 J300 events. Oli Bonding is going for his second J500 title in a row, after winning in Brazil, where he beat Naoya Honda in the final. The Japanese boy is Viktor Frydrych's round 1 opponent here.

Paganetti is 17 and made it into the semi-finals last week in the J300 in France, on clay, before losing to Grant, in two pretty close sets, who went on to take the title easily
(3) Mingge Xu LOST to Neus Torner Sensano (ESP) 7-6(6) 6-1
Maybe in the second set, but not in the first. First outing on clay for Mimi? Must be hard going back to juniors when she must have her sights on the senior tour. Not too concerning I would have thought.

After Mimi got summarily dumped out, Hannah also lost :(
As above, it wasn't that unexpected - her Italian opponent is a very good clay courter (unlike Hannah), and on form, given recent results. Score was quite tight though.
Worse, though, was that Oli Bonding lost very easily to a qualifier. Which did really suprise me, given his recent success on clay
And then poor Viktor lost out by an absolute whisker in a third-set tie-break
So, yay and yippety for CHarlie, who's the only one to manage a win, despite our players being pretty much top seeds (and not being in the list above - maybe that was the magic little extra push )

From what I understand the conditions were really difficult in Germany. It is very cold and the clay is very heavy. It was even snowing one day. Tough for the Brits to go on it right after nationals
