Absolutely excellent win by Eric

Lost the second set easily
Battled hard in the third set, always the more entrpreneurial, front-foot player. But with trouble, on clay, to really impose his shots, doesn't quite trust himself to follow the big shots in, and his backhand was a bit dodgy (as always)
He saved two (or three?) match points at the end of the set
before forcing a tie-break with some clutch play
And was down in the tie-break all the way through
The other boy wasn't doing much more than putting the ball back

And then, again being the more aggressive player, Eric won the tie-break 8-6

Yes a clutch win! Who do you think has a higher ceiling between Lorimer and Pickerd-Barua? Or is that a question to far!

Yes, a little too far out of my comfort zone and Mystic Meg-ness, I'm afraid

Especially as, it seems to me, based on not too much, that Eric is more of a tall kid, with heavy forehand, serve, and Niall is more of a nippy player, good wrist whip, acceleration, that sort of thing

Eric's semi takes is on court 1 at 11am tomorrow (see first post for streaming link). Third on court is the boys doubles final, featuring Niall/Scott. In the girls Iraja's conqueror has continued to the semis as the only non top 4 seed.

A comfortable looking scoreline for Eric (only saw a few minutes of the match though) meaning Eric is through to a Super Category final - a rare feat for a British boy on clay (Mark won Les Petits As indoors last year, but didn't have much success in the clay court Super Category events). However Hollie Smart did also reach the final here last year.

SF

(4) Eric Lorimer d. Matyas Marsik (CZE) 6-3 6-3

Scott's conqueror is Eric's opponent in the final. The doubles final is on court with Niall/Scott up 5-3 in the first set

(8) Plamen Kolev (BUL) v (4) Eric Lorimer

Niall and Scott narrowly lost 10-8 in a match tiebreak but Eric has the singles title (smile) , as Plamen unfortunately has conceded a w/o It may be good enough to see Eric up to Tennis Europe 1 (a tight battle with current number 1 Johann Nagel-heyer (GER) who gained a few points here before giving a w/o to Plamen Kolev in the quarters)

Well done Eric! As said, some really exciting prospects for GB! Does that mean we could have 3 boys in the U14 Tennis Europe top 10? And how does this affect the Race to Monte Carlo rankings?

Eric will move to number 1 in the race, displacing Niall.  Scott may or may not stay in the top 10.  However not all the top 8 in the race opt to play in the Masters (Mark was selected for Junior Davis Cup last year, and Hollie also opted out)
