Thats quite a bad loss for Daniela Britton. Lost in first round of doubles too. Not sure if injured or just having a bad tournament. Hopefully she can bounce back. Very tough draw for Megan Knight. Will be interesting to see how Iraja Nigam gets on at this level. She was very promising at 9-11 years old and then a lot of her age group overtook her. I like the way she plays though
Awen Gwilym Davis was top seed in qualifying but didnt get through - had expected to see her in the main draw as well.
Thanks for the update about Iraja - I don't know her at all - will keep a watch
I've never been too impressed by Awen so that didn't seem that surprising
Not sure about 'bad losses' - I do feel that, at this age, the ranking of many players is very arbitrary.
However, I completely agree - on paper, Nuneva is nothing to look at and you'd have though Daniella would have won that one
I dont tend to trust ranking but I do believe that UTRs are accurate and Daniella has the better UTR (8.80 versus Nikols 7.48) so thought it would be a reasonably comfortable win
Megans UTR is 9.19 against Ines 6.06 so was definitely expecting that result!

Megan wasn't able to trouble Jana, but at least Eric won. Scott is currently playing on live stream
Boys R2
(11) Scott Watson v Daniil Valter (***) currently on court 1-1
Michal Rakous (CZE) d. (7) Niall Pickerd-Barua 4-6 7-6(6) 6-1
(4) Eric Lorimer d. (Q) Eduard Khaikov (***) 6-3 6-2
Eric Lorimer seems a good player from the results Ive seen. Seeded 4th here and seen his name crop up quite a bit in recent times. Interested to know anyones thoughts on his game style and potential from those who have watched him?

I watched a couple of his matches and this is what I wrote (not aying it's gospel but it's what struck me at the time)
"The boy's got the makings of a very good serve, hits a heavy ball, especially on his forehand, doesn't mind coming forward. He's a bit heavy-footed and slow to react at times - he needs to keep reminding himself to be a bit more on the ball"
He won the first set, just
Lost the second set easily
Battled hard in the third set, always the more entrpreneurial, front-foot player. But with trouble, on clay, to really impose his shots, doesn't quite trust himself to follow the big shots in, and his backhand was a bit dodgy (as always)
He saved two (or three?) match points at the end of the set
before forcing a tie-break with some clutch play
And was down in the tie-break all the way through
The other boy wasn't doing much more than putting the ball back
And then, again being the more aggressive player, Eric won the tie-break 8-6
Thanks CD! Managed to catch the end of the last set and what a close tiebreak it was! Lorimer was the more proactive looking to dictate with his forehand. He seems quite tall for his age so I wonder if that made a difference. But regardless he's through to the semi finals of a super category so good news! :)
