Interesting Tegan lost to Eloise in the 2022 final and then absolutely thrashed her 0,1 yesterday.

Yes. I remember that final, though

Even David C, in true gentlemanly terms, said it was a 'rather poor' final, or something along those lines :)

Flippin' awful, I'd have said

Second seed, Isabella Walker won her match quite easily, as expected, over Bella Loftus 6-2 6-2

However, all credit to Bella

Both yesterday and today, she showed a real good fighting spirit, none of the dying duck theatricals of some, even when she was losing. A lot of intensity and application out there, and some good tennis too.

Tegan won 6-0 6-0 which is an impressive score line

Equally as expected, Tegan looked a lot fresher and dealt with the hugely windy and rainy conditions far far better than Leticia who just looked utterly cold and miserable

Tegan won 0 & 0, which wasn't an unfair score

Well, it wasn't really rocket science but all the matches went according to expectation

Hollie Smart took three sets, and a lot of balls back, but she managed to get under Teddy's skin nicely enough

Her ultra languid style of play is not my favourite, although I do like her on clay, but she has decent technique and it was terribly windy there today at times, so not easy

Good to see Freya Peet too - and her constant 'vamos' shouts would make her Spanish academy proud :)

Just for context

This year the U16 tournament is primarily for girls born in calendar years 2008 and 2009

The 2023 U16 final saw Hannah Klugman (2009) defeat Mika Stojsavljevic (2008) 6-4 6-0

Semi-finalists were Tegan Bush (2008) and Lois Newberry (2007)

Obviously, although eligible, neither Hannah nor Mika are playing here. Lois is now too old. Tegan is 3rd seed this year and into the QFs

As a feed-up though, the 2023 U14 final saw:

Hollie Smart (2009) def. Edie Griffiths (2009)

Sophia Kovacheva (2008) and Sophie Bekker (2008) were semi-finalists

Hollie is also into the QFs this year (but is year 1)

The 2022 U14 final (i.e. the direct feed-up here, as it goes in two-year tranches) saw:

Eloise Newberry (2008) def. Tegan Bush (2008)

Rosie Cho (2010) and Ophelia K Davies (2009) were semi-finalists

Well, Tegan beat Isabella Walker in the semi, coming from a set down. Well done to her as she goes one step beyond last season

I think you might have got your years mixed up with the semi finalists?
Sophia and Sophie cant have been semi finalists in the 2023 14U nationals as they werent in the 14U age group last year. Should they have been the ones listed as beingin the 2022 semi finals?

Sounds very likely that I inverted the years
Will double check when I get home

Looking at the You Tube channel, the play seemed to have moved indoors - the girls doubles final seems to be on at the moment on an indoor court

Hollie appears to have won the other singles semi 4 and 3 over Freya
