Dare I say it 4 months in advance, but edging her way towards the wild card discussion for Wimbledon. That aside, a great week with convincing results so hopefully much more to follow.

Marni, at the SF stage, is now live ranked 250, GB #6. If she could win the title here she would be up to about WR 220 and soar into possible French Open qualifying list discussions ( will be based on the 08/04 rankings and Marni has nothing to drop next week ).

Lily, now live ranked 147, GB #5 ( #4 if she was to win the title ) is also going to be at a new CH on Monday.

Having been a set and a break down, Maia & Jessika ultimately won the last 12 points to win by 2-6 7-5 [10-0]

Great week for Marni and Lily. Interesting to see who comes out on top there.

Marni has definitely put herself in Wimbledon MDWC territory if she keeps getting some good wins and good weeks.

I can't see them not giving her one now, which is quite the shift given she didn't get a QWC last year when I think most of us thought she deserved one.

Marni has her W25 finalist points coming off at the end of April

So that will need some defending (I think she's playing a W50 in France then but that's all she's entered in April)

THere's also a problem about shortage of wildcards

If they go with the policy of giving them to old winners/top players you've got Halep and Kerber and Wozniacki and Osaka and Venus all lining up (although hopefully some will have made it up the rankings enough by then)

And given Emma is a shoo-in (under the criteria above, as well as just being Emma). And then Heather and Lily seem priority. And assuming Harriet hasn't dropped down and needs one too.

It's all going to be rather tight, no ????

Yes, it's going to be rather tight. However there can be no doubt that Marni deserves at least to be in qualifying this year.

I get the feeling that things have never been quite as they should be Between Marni and the selection team at the Lta. A close friend of mine who follows British Tennis emphatically has heard a few tales over the years (which I wont repeat on here) that she was always treated as an outsider and never given the opportunities that she deserved.

We were baffled last year to see some of the players who got wild cards through the grass season before her even though she had recently beat some of those players.

As I have mentioned in another post the discussion I heard with Jeremy Bates at Shrewsbury gives me the impression that he wasnt keen on her at all as well as giving me the impression that he was generally an arrogant unpleasant man.

Que Coup Droit  LOL

Does anybody know if Marni and Lily have ever played before in British tours or anything?

I'll resist the temptation, Deucebag, I'll resist...... (you've said it all, what's to add? Well, actually.....NO.... )

Marni obviously spent a lot of her time as a teenager in Spain so maybe didn't 'make friends' with the blazers that count

(Also might be why she hasn't played Lily before - I don't know if they have - but what with the two of them having rather different schedules, I'd be suprised)

The qualis this year are also going to be quite tight for wildcards

I'm sure the LTA (hence AELTC) will want to give WCs to Mimi, and Mika, and Hannah (assuming Hannah hasn't got a main draw one ). And if a different girl wins the U18s (like Isa Lacy again, say) then there would be four for youngsters, and two for the playoffs and - again - you're down to hardly anybody

Just as well there are very few adults to give WCs to then. If it wasn't for the kids a record number would be going unused this year.

Now hopefully Lily can win the title and push further up the rankings.
