Week 13 - ITF W75 Croissy-Beaubourg, France - Indoor Hard

Pity for Marni, and with her history it has to be a bit of a worry for now.

And according to the ITF site "momentum" her retirement wasn't between games, let alone at a changeover, but after the first point of the 3rd game in the 2nd set.

Anyone know anything more?

I had a glance at the score at the end of the set, and either Marni or Lily was having a medical timeout. Im guessing it was Marni

Oh, what a shame for Marni. But best wishes for Lily in the final.

'As I have mentioned in another post the discussion I heard with Jeremy Bates at Shrewsbury gives me the impression that he wasnt keen on her at all as well as giving me the impression that he was generally an arrogant unpleasant man.'

That's exactly the impression I got from him Deucebag over-hearing his conversations when he was coaching Katie Boulter. He'd be one of the last people I'd pick to be coaching young women because of his overbearing and critical approach. Not entirely unconnected how well Katie has done since she changed coach. I'm sure he's very good at shmoozing the blazer-coated brigade but he seems far more interested in hanging out with his croneys at e.g. Wimbly qualies than supporting young British talent, tending to frown a lot rather than offer encouragement.

Congratulations.

For ITF womens singles titles only:
Miyazaki becomes the first Brit to win twice at W50/$50K level in the same calendar year since Konta managed it in 2015 (1 x $50K, 1 x $100K).
The only other occurrences were Keothavong, who managed it twice (including in 2008, when she won 3 times at $50K level or above; thus far, uniquely amongst Brits), and Baltacha once.

The only other player this millennium to have won twice at W75/$75K level or higher in the same calendar year was Watson in 2015 (1 x $100K, 1 x 100K+H)

If you change the criteria to within any 12 consecutive months, the picture gets more complicated than I care to outline here!
