It wasn't particularly great in the mens either

Rhys Lawlor got a win, which I was pleased about as he was so close last week, against the 2nd seed

And Enrico Franchi beat a 'pesky', as did Louis Hull, Mark Ceban, Dan Hughes and Luke Hooper

Pride of place, though, goes to (wc) Kai-Luca Ampaw who took out the 8th seed in three sets

There's good and bad out there today

Girls

Dani P withdrew today - which is a real shame and obviously means she's injured (sick?), after the exploits of last week. Hoping it's jsut precautionary (and it does put Maria Ustic through, so good that a GB lass got the benefit)

However, Isabella Walker came through a three-set thriller, and took the third set TB 7-6(5) ! (Hope she got a bit of crowd participation on that one )

Lovely win for Erin Pearce, over the 5th seed

And Ruby Cooling won too

2009-born Popa defeated Elizabeth Evans

Sophya's result yet to come

Boys

Really pleased to see wildrcard 15 year-old Rhys getting another good win, this time over the 7th seed

These are his first points at J100 level and he's made the QF (gets the top seed next though)

Wildcard Kai-Luca Ampaw also won

Well done to Max Carrier for beating 2009-er, Mark Ceban, too

And Luke Hooper rounds up our 4 lads who are through to the quarters (where Kai plays Max, so we have at least one SF spot)

All went pear-shaped

But the boys have rescued us

Rhys Lawlor defeated the top seed, JWR 209, 6-4 6-4

A great result !!!

Luke Hooper, seeded 6, also beat the 3rd seed

And a win too for Max Carrier, over (wc) Kai-Luca Ampaw

In the SFs, Max will play the second seed

And Rhys plays Luke

Max is getting very consistent at this level.
Time to move to J200's?

He might as well

He's only got about 18 months left in juniors

Time to roll the dice

However, I assume that the U18 nationals are a big focus

And he's hoping for a wildcard into Wimbly qualis (possibly main draw), and Roehampton main draw, etc

So he'll have some big tournaments comng up

But he's down for the J200 in France at the start of April - although he's an ALT at the moment, and so he has also entered the J100 in Turkey to have an option if he doesn't make it

He also entered two J200s and two J300s in March but withdrew from all, presumably because he didn't make the cut or they were too far away

And Max (2007) gets a great clutch victory, winning his semi-final over the 2nd seed, 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(5)

And will play Luke Hooper (2006), who beat Rhys Lawlor (2009) 7-5 6-1

Which gives us a repeat of last week's title match, which Luke won

Whatever happens, this will be net new points for both players (at least +40 for Luke and at least +24 for Max, although Luke has biggish points coming off at the end of March, start of April)

And a very big rise for 2009-born Rhys too

two consecutive titles for Luke, well done to him - I dont know much about him, and his career, is two J100 titles for him a good showing?
