Well done to the singles winners, Luke and Daniela

I see that Max was 1-5 down in the third set when he retired in the singles final. Will he make the doubles final?

Max goes down seriously in my estimation for retiring at 1-5 down in the third

I find that really poor sportsmanship

but congrats to Luke

And really pleased for Dani P, of course

I make that this will be 90 new points for Dani, from singles

Which will zoom her up from JWR 228 to approx JWR 165

AND she has nothing coming off until July, and then nothing till October

Like all the girls, Junior Nationals will take up a chunk of their April, and they cant't play non-stop, but there will still be a good opportunities for future points in the next 6 months (including next week at Loughborough II)

Max did indeed play his doubles which is good, as in he isn't seriously injured, but begs the question above even more....

Boys Final: Max Carrier & CZE def. SUI/CZE  6-2 6-2

But no luck in the girls:

Girls Final: GER/AUT def. Marelie Raath and Sarah Copley  2-6  6-2  10-8

I dont understand why someone would retire at 1-5 down other than being spiteful or a bad sport, certainly if not injured and also if they are injured , unless really seriously? which he cant have been?

what is that about?

That looks like the result of Max's doubles SF. The draw on the ITF site says that Max+ lost the final to another SUI/CZE pair by 6-3 6-4?

Please don't make assumptions about sportsmanship without knowing the facts....

It's my opinion (and Jon's, it seems, but I'm not speaking for him, he has his own post)

I personally find the default position to be poor sportsmanship when someone retires at 1-5 down, and then goes on to play their doubles

There may possibly be a reasonable explanation but, until then, the default option applies, in my opinion

(It's a case of the premise and the rebuttal, so to speak)
