I assume that seedings will be based on new rankings so a win for Katie would mean a seeding at IW?

It's too soon for IW but Katie will be seeded in Miami.
Yes, if it's like last year the current 26/02 rankings will apply for the Indian Wells MD so no seeding. Live ranked 35 so she may need to win the final here to be seeded for Miami.
I also think her relationship with Alex has had a positive effect on her game. Some of his success has clearly rubbed off on katie. They look a great couple. Supporting each other along their tennis journey. It's lovely to see and hope Katie can grab this title in San Diego.
They have been in a relationship since 2020, so think notwithstanding Alexs support which is mutual, Katies fighting spirit, battling her way back from that terrible patch she went through 18 months ago is the reason for her success. Alex doesnt play the matches, it is Katies talent. GB Ladies (seniors annd juniors) are doing very well this year, keep going all!

Yes if she wins IW with a rank of 27 she will be seeded in Miami. However with a rank of 35 there some players ranked above her who will definitely not play or maybe not play. Kvitova and Muchova will not play and there are question marks about Keys and Fernandez who retired in her last match.

I agree. I think it's far more that she's got a much better coach and she's been able to play consistently in recent times that have made the difference. What hampered her in 2019 was that bad hip injury just when she was really breaking through, and she'd reached number 80 in the world around that time and was on an upward trajectory. It's been hard since then because of lock down and other injury niggles and her ME but now she's played more regularly her ability has started shining through.
It's nice to have the support but I don't think either of them would put their success down to their romantic relationship. Bearing in mind she was a top ten junior, she's got the talent as VAR says.
Just had a quick scan of the predictions competition....a few have Katie at 40ish. Someone has her at 19 which isn't looking outlandish now. Long way to go but looking very positive at moment.

Indeed predictions range from 19 to 88 with the average at 57. With her current ranking of 35 only those predictingbetween 25 and 45 will score anything - around a third of entries.

Yeah I was that someone and I think I may have underestimated her season. If she does well here, then even with the points coming off before Wimbledon, I can still see her pushing on to a seriously good ranking by the end of the season.
Not trying to make myself out to be super clever or anything (I'm very much not), but I have been waiting and expecting her to come good for a number of years and truly believe that she has the kind of game that will take her to very good places, added to a slim but strong physique, which I think means that if her injuries do not get the better of her is often the best body build for continuing into her 30's. as bulkier players often tend to slow down considerably as they get older.
I'm also glad that other people are pointing out that her relationship with Alex and her coaching team, well they look to be good sources of support, are not the main reason she is doing well now - she appears to be in good physical shape and having broken into the top 100 is now playing the top players more regularly and is finding that her game is standing her in good stead.
Fingers crossed for the match in a minute, but whatever happens, the big picture right now is very good.
