Realistically she has a great opportunity to go higher, although the points gap to the next player is substantial.
20pts to defend from Indian Wells, nothing from Miami and then nothing much until May when she had a few good weeks in Japan.
Yes indeed. Any points in Miami will replace an 8 pointer from last March, and then she still has a 1 pointer which can be replaced by any points gained in April. It definitely bodes well for getting seeded in Paris.
Fantastic result and tournament for her - big well done Katie. Hope she really enjoys this breakthrough and I''m sure she will enjoy looking at the rankings and seeing some big names like Azarenka and Mertens below her. Fingers crossed for Indian Wells and Miami for her.

While the ranking milestone is great, and can get her seeded at the biggest events, at the end of her career it will all be about her best performances, and to win San Diego on the back of her Nottingham title is a huge achievement. I am reminded that Heather Watson has won four WTA titles, in addition to a Wimbledon mixed doubles win, which is more of a legacy than a career best ranking of No. 38.
Fantastic result from Katie to win a WTA500 and the quality of players she beat.
She really does look fit, strong and healthy and hungry for more.
She must be feeling fantastic going forward and hoping to keep these wins going in more bigger events.
To clear up my comments from the other day about Katie and Alex and success rubbing off. I didn't word it properly. Of course Katies success is on her racquet and her hard work for sure. it looks like she has a good team around her. With regards to Alex I was more meaning that when you are young and in love you wake up with an extra spring in your step and maybe work a little harder than you think. So clearly she is in a very good place right now that I truly believe helps for the mindset. I bet after her win she felt there was no bigger person cheering her on to victory than Alex. So I still believe it can rub off a little on each other and the obvious love and support they give to one another. But ultimately I know Katies success is down to Katie and for that I applaud her.
Great to see Katie finally achieve the success she's always been capable of. I just hope Emma, Swanny, Fran and Sonay can get injury free and fulfill their potential as well.
Katie's given us all a great watch this week - love it when a tourno goes like that and everything falls into place; when you know you've got the game, you're body's holding up and have put in the hard yards
