I thought Sun looked excellent, and deserved the win - lots of fun lefty stuff. A better scoreline than when they played in Australia anyway. Hoping Heather now does some high level ITFs while others are at the sunshine double; it really feels like she could break 100 again this year with good tournament selection.

Yes. It was close but Lulu has some real weight on those balls, even when in difficutly, as well as the funky lefty swing.

Also puts Mika's performance into perspective.

Shame for Hev but still back up to 125 in live rankings and closing in again on the top 100 hopefully soon.

I'm afraid it's only for a week. The 33 points gained here cover the 30 points she got from Glasgow last year that drop on Monday week. Then she has another 48 point counter dropping the week after. So she'll back down to 150 in a couple of weeks such is the up and down nature of the rankings.

Have to say I'm very impressed by Heather's approach to this stage of her career. The decision to drop down a level or two and the commitment to play in these tournaments is very admirable indeed. I'm sure she doesn't really need the money but hopefully the points gained will get her back towards the top 100. Great to see her winning again and playing with a smile on her face too.

It is an approach Emma Raducanu and her team would do well to take notice of.

This is exactly how I feel about Heather. She goes where she needs to in order to chase the points she needs. Always smiling and happy. Always a genuine delight whatever level of event she is playing.

Emma Raducanu would indeed do well to take notice of this and drop down a level in order to get a lot of matches in. If you take away Emma's US Open victory what else does she really have on her tennis cv if you compare her to Watson, Dart and Boulter.

How many other British women have a  US Open/US Championship which has been played every year since 1887?  The answer is 2 , Betty Nuthall in 1930 and Virginia Wade in 1968. Victories are so rare and Emma's victory was way beyond what the other trio are likely to  manage.

I always find it a bit odd to say "if you take away [insert achievement not attained by any peers or anyone in recent memory] what has she really achieved?".

But in Emma's case, she also got to the fourth round of Wimbledon in the same year - something that none of the other crop aside from Heather have done.

Well done Heather on a very stellar week.

In this situation I am surprised that Heather has withdrawn for the W50 in France w/c 26th Feb.  It would be great if this is because she has entry for a higher level tournament but as far as I can see she's not close to the entry list for either San Diego or Austin?

Yes, I had noticed she was down for a couple more upcoming ITF events. Thought she would go for them to hopefully continue her good form, pick up some more points to cover those coming off and hopefully move a few more places nearer the top 100.

A repeat of their Australian Open first round qualifying match, which Sun won in straight sets. Interestingly Sun is due to play Badosa in the first round of Dubai WTA1000 on Monday as a wild card. That'll be a quick turnaround.

Lulu made it Dubai in time - and got a win (of sorts) over Badosa 6-4 retired. A win is a win though and 65 points and $20k makes it all worthwhile.
