Week 7 - ITF W50 Roehampton - Indoor Hard

Back to back match tiebreak wins for Sam and Freya, not playing their best by any stretch but getting the job done. Would love to see Sam back in the top 100

FWIW, Harriet ( still just 14 ) and Mika ( turned 15 in December ) are now 1st and 4th respectively in the under 16s in the WTA rankings.

Weve got Liv in J50 events and Harriet dishing it in the under 16s; it feels like a scandal we need to get beneath the surface of! biggrin

Maybe they've decided to  identify as Juniors so they can win biggrin

Heather has just won the first set. I'm really enjoying this as she's hitting so well.

Ruzic has had some great form in recent months so that's a great result.

SF:- Heather Watson (GBR) WR132 [2] def Antonia Ruzic (CRO) WR194 [6] 6-1 6-0

Heather had a onepoint counter from Tampico, so this tournament has become a counter, and she is live-ranked 125 after today's win

Have to say I'm very impressed by Heather's approach to this stage of her career. The decision to drop down a level or two and the commitment to play in these tournaments is very admirable indeed. I'm sure she doesn't really need the money but hopefully the points gained will get her back towards the top 100. Great to see her winning again and playing with a smile on her face too.

It is an approach Emma Raducanu and her team would do well to take notice of.

A repeat of their Australian Open first round qualifying match, which Sun won in straight sets. Interestingly Sun is due to play Badosa in the first round of Dubai WTA1000 on Monday as a wild card. That'll be a quick turnaround.
