Broom was better player deserved to win good serve I felt Aidan was hanging on in the match. Aidan has some great slices but he lacks power in his shots to be honest I don't think he has progressed that mutch over last few years.
Now the Robertson match is due to start the Belgian is a good player seen him before.

Thanks Scottie - Aidan and Charlie both strike me as players who are around the right ranking level compared to their likely talent and potential high points. I dont really see either of them too much higher, not really.

I think Charles is at a CH now or thereabouts, maybe just in the top 300 is possible; Aidan has been just inside the top 300 (298) and it would seem he is about where he should be, subject to the ups and downs in a season and how rankings float about...

As discussed  earlier in the thread Charlie is currently unranked though the 7 points that he has now gathered here will of course give him his first ATP ranking on Monday.

I'd say that it's far too early to get a real feel for how the 17 yo might get in the rankings. But that's certainly a very good looking win today.

ah ha - too many Charlies; my Charlie and Charles are both referring to the player known Broom. Sorry, talking about different players!! biggrin

Oops sorry.. I should have still worked it out

 No worries!

Thats a great win for Paul and the men are doing really well this week. Paul v Charlie Robertson should be very interesting.

Presumably that win will hoist Paul into the top 500 again?

According to Live Rankings, with Hamish at WR 500 as of now, we stand on 23 players in the top 500. Someone will tell me that is wrong but, if it is correct, that is a decent place to be.

Indeed 8 of the last 16 is a great return. Shame most of them are in the same half!

Oh, I so enjoyed that match

Well done, Hamish, lad

I know servefest tennis is not the flavour of the moment

But sometimes it's just so impressive to see a guy stand up, throw the ball up, with a little take back, and then just smash the ball into smithereens

Funny how things happen isnt it, I have banged on about Sunderland a few times but Hamish played Strombachs the day I was there and the match followed a similar pattern. I wonder if he called himself dopey this time?

I have to say I disagree about a few comments RE Pauls ceiling - I really think he could have a brilliant career if he stays fit

The LTA deserve some credit for putting these on, they rightly got criticism a few years ago about the calendar but the last couple of years theyve nailed it.

Hopefully, re Paul. Really hope so!
