Week 7 - ATP Challenger 50 - Glasgow, Great Britain (indoor hard)

And the laddie has done it

Some cracking forehand whip on some of those shots

Colson visibly getting irritated

What's not to love?

Broom was better player deserved to win good serve I felt Aidan was hanging on in the match. Aidan has some great slices but he lacks power in his shots to be honest I don't think he has progressed that mutch over last few years.
Now the Robertson match is due to start the Belgian is a good player seen him before.

Thanks Scottie - Aidan and Charlie both strike me as players who are around the right ranking level compared to their likely talent and potential high points. I dont really see either of them too much higher, not really.

I think Charles is at a CH now or thereabouts, maybe just in the top 300 is possible; Aidan has been just inside the top 300 (298) and it would seem he is about where he should be, subject to the ups and downs in a season and how rankings float about...

As discussed  earlier in the thread Charlie is currently unranked though the 7 points that he has now gathered here will of course give him his first ATP ranking on Monday.

I'd say that it's far too early to get a real feel for how the 17 yo might get in the rankings. But that's certainly a very good looking win today.

wow just wow I thought Charlie was going to lose second set as Coulson had a couple of set points the Belgian played two loose shots at 3-4 down in tie break to go down 3-6 Charlie played a blinder of a long rally to win the match. Really impressed by Charlie. The Belgian had the trainer on at 4-3 and Charlie was broken yo go 5-3 down in second set just amazing he had the mental strength to comeback

Just had a couple of minutes to watch the tie break and Charlie did really well - the Belgian played a few terrible shots, but thats his problem! From the little I saw, Charlie looks to be a really solid player with a fine temperament. Lots of points being racked up in a single tournament. Well done.

My only slight concern is one that is what it is. The Belgian is 6 foot 4, and when they shook hands at the end, the height difference was extraordinary - a good 9/10 inches or so from what I could estimate. At 17 still a good chance for a growth spurt hopefully but life could be a much bigger challenge on the full tour if that doesnt materialise.

But a brilliant result and kudos all round.

I had a quick chat with Patrick and he withdrew with a minor injury.

Will try and get into the challengers on the grass.

Cox will be a good challenge for Searle in the next round. A wily old vet who knows how to grind out matches

Some great wins here, is that 5 through now to r2? Kyle, Henry, Hamish, Charlie (Robertson) and Dan Cox?

Six, actually:  you forgot the other Charlie, Broom, while Paul & Stuart have still to play their first round matches.

Ha, given I had just been talking about him, duh!

Marvellous. Realise it is only a CH50 but must b e a long while since we had so many through to the last 16 in a challenger?

Kyle and Henry versus Mark Whitehouse and George Houghton today is an interesting match up.

Henry v Dan Cox is the pick today, for me. Interesting battle of old stager and young up and comer.
