Girls Qualis

Huge congrats to unranked 15 year-old, Ava McMillan, who beat the top seed in qualifying

That's what these J30s are all about - the chance for unknown girls and boys to play their first ever ITF event - and possible get a win, like Ava, against the best played in the draw

Another notable win in QR1 was Wales' 13 year-old Awen Gwilym-Davies who beat the 4th seed, 6-1 6-3

16 year-old Jonny Cross who beat the 3rd Q seed from Turkey, 2 & 2

16 year-old Daniel Franco Key who beat the 4th Q seed from Spain, 7-5 6-0

Brandon Ratanavong won the TE event here beating Niall quite easily in the final. He is big and powerful for his age and good to see him stepping up to ITF

Is Gabby only 14? She has struggled at Liverpool previously.

Not surprised by Mia, when she is on it, she is very good.

Arabella was a talent, but surprised she beat Sofia.

Not surprised by any of these results. Rankings in J30 can be misleading.

Rhys is at Loughborough academy

Jonny Cross has taken time to adapt to play against the older juniors after doing well at TE

Brandon is big and powerful for his age

Archie Gray is another from the S Wales academy

Yes, but all the other kids may be at their countries' academies too smile

Your guys unfortunately didn't do so well in the next round

The trouble with rating one side is that it doesn't account for the other, which is difficult with the foreign kids as we've basically got very little to go by.

The big upset in R2 was MATHIASLescano-Vecchi who is unranked, with no wins despite playing quite a large number of tournaments, and who managed to put out the second seed in two sets

So the QFs are:

(wc) MATHIASLescano-Vecchi v ISR (8)

KourosAnssarizadeh v (q) FRA

(7) Conor Brady v Matt Upton

(1) Alfie King v Rhys Lawlor

In the girls, the QFs are:

(1) BEL v Mia Wainwright

(3) Elizabeth Evans v Isabelle Britton

(4) Sarah Copley v (7) Georgiana Mititelu

Arabella Loftus v (6) TUR

All the girls are at least 15, whereas we often see our younger ones in J30s but with Winter Cup it's allowed a bit of breathing room for the others which is nice for them

I spoke to Conor Brady's coach last week and was told he had come on leaps and bounds in the last few months, so had a feeling he would do well this week.

The QF are interesting - Alfie is local and the most experienced player in the boys and should win the tournament. Kouros is very talented, but still only young and lacks a bit of power against the older boys
On the girls side - Mia is talented, but very inconsistent. Elizabeth Evans should be playing higher level tournaments and is probably the best player left. Sarah Copley is an enigma. She has all the ability and when she is aggressive and is on her game, she is a match for anyone, but she lacks consistency.
The Turkish girl is part of Team Bath and is based in the UK
