Boys & Girls: 2024 Tennis Europe Winter Cups (U12/U14/U16)

The girls have done it again - same pattern of results - and play Ukraine for gold (they beat Estonia, the eventual winners of our qualifying group). As an aside I note that this is the first occasion since the under 12 competition started in 2012 that the finals host (usually Czechia for the boys and Britain for the girls) has not qualified direct through the qualifying competition

U12 girls finals SF

GBR 2 Slovakia 1

Naina Kapoor lost to Simona Novakova 3-6 6-3 2-6
Dasha Jones beat Alexandra janoskova 6-2 6-3
Cunninghame/Jones beat Janoskova/Novakova 6-3 6-3

Although the Tennis Europe website has not been updated since mid afternoon they have tweeted that the girls have won smileThat is therefore the second time we have won the under 12 girls trophy. The previous occasion was last time out in 2020 (Hannah Klugman, Amalia Widdowson and Sophie Bekker).  The boys also won it once in 2013 (Jack Draper, George Loffhagen and Jacob Fearnley)

F

GBR 2 Ukraine 1

Naina Kapoor beat Anna Kuznetsova 7-6(7) 7-5
Dasha Jones lost to Mariia Kocherzhenko 2-6 4-6
Doubles must have been won

The under 12 boys finished fifth after wins over Czech Republic (3-0 with singles wins for Oskar and Frederick) and 2-1 against the Netherlands (wins for Oskar plus doubles)

France was the country we lost to in the qualifying event, so two teams from the same group make the final. A particularly impressive win for Niall over the TE4 today

Andrej Adamovic lost to Scott Watson 1-6 3-6
Richard Krizan lost to Niall Pickerd-Barua 2-6 2-6

Good start for the U14 boys as Scott reverses his defeat to Quentin Dodin of 2 weeks ago by a 6-2 6-3 scoreline to give GBR the lead

Closer than their first encounter but eventually France come through, so we end up with silver

Quentin Dodin lost to Scott Watson 2-6 3-6
Pablo Pradat beat Niall Pickerd-Barua 6-2 6-7(4) 6-4

In the under 14 girls the team we lost to Germany is currently taking on the Czech Republic in the final, with the aforementioned Ida Wobker having beaten TE1 Jana Kovackova to send the match into a deciding doubles.

Here's the boys U14 team with their medals.  Czech Republic won the girls event for the third time in a row.
