Boys & Girls: Australian Open, hard (Weeks 3/4)

The top half of the draw did manage to complete their quarter-finals so top seed Renata Jamrichova will play Japan's Ena Koike (WTA575) in one semi. Mimi lost the first 4 games before replying with 4 of her own. The break might help Mimi for this match given the length of time she has been on court, but they have scheduled the semi for later on Friday, which isn't in her favour unless the other quarter-final goes deep (Saito leads 4-1)

Tough day for Mimi as she loses singles and doubles, but congrats Viktor, he won his doubles semi and is into the final!

Viktor and his Czech partner play an unseeded American pair in the upcoming final- I wont try to write their names on my phone as it will go badly wrong.

Am I correct that Viktor will get 300/500 points from this final, depending on result (1/4 of singles points?). It looks like it could possibly take him top 10, or very close?

For reaching the doubles Final the player gets 525 points. For winning the player gets 750 points.
BUT need to divide that by 4 for the combined ranking.

Ah, thanks DF - the draw sheet in TNNS shows points are 2000 for the winner but it is probably lifting that from the main senior events. Id picked up on the 1/4 points thing at least.

Oh, well, winning is the most important thing. Lets hope they can pull it back.

Decent effort from Viktor+

But the unseeded US boys were very strong at the net

Viktor and partner lost 3-6 5-7

Excellent to reach the doubles final, though

Well done to Wales! I dont think Wales will ever have had a quarter finalist and semi finalist (Mimi) or finalist (Viktor) in the AO juniors. Brilliant!

Yep, great effort from Viktor and Mimi this week, onto the next one and a great year ahead!

I think Viktor will rise to JWR if 21 - lots of movement in the rankings so may have this a little wrong...

Very exciting to see some Welsh players doing good! In my time of watching we've only had Josh Milton, Rebecca Llewellyn, Olivia Scarfi and Evan Hoyt (I might've missed someone, but that's all I can remember). So I'm excited to see these two steadily move up!

There are lots coming through - Swansea in particular seem to have quite a few promising juniors.
