RE: Boys & Girls: Australian Open, hard (Weeks 3/4)

Our remaining girls are again scheduled around the same time - but on this occasion 3rd matches.   Hannah's opponent owes her seeding to winning back to back J300 events in Thailand last March, but hasn't done much since apart from a W15 semi

Girls R2

Maya Joint (AUS) d. (Q) Isabelle Lacy 6-2 6-1

(Q) Lea Nilsson (SWE) v (12) Mingge Xu           court 15 match 3
Mika Stojsavljevic v (2) Sara Saito (JPN)       court 14 match 3

Congratulations to Mimi, reaching quarters in what I think is her first time at the AO juniors. Well done to Hannah and Mika for reaching the last 16. Quarters look winnable for Mimi, wishing her lots of luck!

All of this! Will be a decent climb up the ranks for Mimi and an encouraging boost for our girls overall. Five in the last 32, three in the last 16 and one in the last eight is pretty impressive when were talking about a GS, even at junior level. Especially as two of them are on the younger side - Hannah and Mika - and we have others coming just behind them, like Hollie Smart.

Good luck Mimi in the singles and to her and Hannah in the doubles And Viktor as well!

Mimi's success has been achieved with resilience, coming from a set down in all three matches. The cumulative effort may eventually take its toll though, so she really needs a quick win tonight (3rd match on the 1573 arena). If she reaches the semis then she will face her strongest opponent so far - either Traralgon champion Emerson Jones or second seed Sara Saito.

Viktor will be on the opposite side of the net to Lindsay Davenport's son Jagger Leach in his semi

Boys Doubles QF

(5) Brunclik/Frydrych (CZE/GBR) d. Dedura-Palomero/Schoenhaus (GER) 6-2 6-2

SF

(5) Brunclik/Frydrych (CZE/GBR) v Bigun/Leach (USA)

Girls QF

(12) Mingge Xu v (16) Iva Ivanova (BUL)

Doubles QF

(2) Klugman/Xu d. Arystanbekova/Perapekhina (KAZ/***) 6-2 6-2

SF

Pastikova/Stusek (CZE/GER) v (2) Klugman/Xu

Mimi has 300pts in singles and 367pts in doubles so far. Replacing a 90pt and a 225pts score.

The net points may only move her 3 or 4 places in the ranking unless she progresses further.

Hannah has 180pts in singles and 367pts in doubles so far. No improvement on singles, but a replacement for 157pts in doubles.

Not sure Hannah's ranking will improve yet.

There will be big changes after Paris as most of the other players around our top two have big points to defend.

Hannah has 200 points coming off in Feb.

And it seems she's probably not playing juniors in Feb - she's certainly not down on the list for the J500 and J300 in Egypt which is where most of the big names are (I think she'll play Roehampton instead)

So at least the 180 points here will cover her 200 points nicely

Mimi doesn't have any major singles points coming off (she missed all this period last year with her foot injury). So she has more upside.
