And it looks like the latest withdrawals should sneak Heather into a top 32 seeding for qualies, which could make a big difference.
The latest shown is Harriet as 8th seed in qualifying and Heather at 32.
I make it Harriet 13th seed and Heather 29th seed using 1 Jan rankings.
This was my mistake as I was taking live rankings as opposed to the rankings of 1st January which are used. However Harriet and Heather will have risen one in qualifying as Brady pulled out and Juvan is now in. The majors used to consist of 106 direct entries 8 wild cards and 16 qualifiers . Now we have added 2 significant new categories. One is protected entry and the other is entries via withdrawals. For the AO initially there were 8 protected entries and there are currently 7 withdrawals. Of course it is better to withdraw before qualifying starts.
Bad luck Harriet, but fantastic week nevertheless and I can see her back in the top 100 soon. I have a lot of time for Parrizas-Diaz, making her breakthrough in her 30s. Hope it inspires a lot of our players!
Shame about the final reuslt but a good start to the year.
She qualified previously for the aus open didnt she? Hopefully can repeat this year.
She's a pretty serial qualifier at the Aus Open. Qualified in 2019. 2020 and 2022. Had a DE in 2023. She's also twice qualified for the US Open. Must be our best GS qualifier over recent years.
Unlike a lot of the other British girls Harriet has the ability to play for most of the calendar without picking up too many injuries.
I would like to see her break into the top 100 and stay there for a while.
