Week 49 - ITF W100 - Dubai, UAE Hard

I just saw a comment about never knowing when the last time you read a book to your child will be and then I come on here and see Heather is on one of her streaks again and realised she is the same. She gets written off then puts a streak together. We'll not know we've seen the last Heather streak until she retires.

 That's very poignant

(and, yes, great 'unexpected' run from Heather biggrin)

Just to say, as it feels appropriate, Ill put a player of the month thread up for December and January later next week, once player of the season is done - just in case anyone wants to capture Heathers run and make sure it is recognised, just hold the thought !

Lovely Hev. Very pleased. Pretty close to being guaranteed a seeding for Melbourne qualies which would be good.

Really pleased for her. I have to admit I didn't think we would see another of these runs.

Just noticed Hev is entered into a 40k in India starting Christmas Day. Will be surprised if she plays, but I think this (and recent runs) are a sign of intention - one last stab to get into the top 100, olympics and some slam wins. Shes definitely capable - would love to see it

Heather is now showing on live rankings as up 13 places to WR138. She still has one low counter of 2 points, so still room for a further climb.

Liv is really serving poorly, and struggling with returns hit to her on the baseline with any sort of pace (most of her third shots land half way up the net). The girls were a break up early in the match but lost the set 6-4. And Liv broken again to lose the break in the second.

Hev doing her best to keep the energy and positivity. Can definitely still get this.

4-6 2-1*

For the record

QF:- Olivia Nicholls (GBR) / Heather Watson (GBR) CR183 (106+77) [3] def Luksika Kumkhum (THA) / Peangtarn Plipuech (THA) CR246 (117+129) 4-6 6-3 10-5

They weren't playing well as Paul says, but I had to stop watching and go out so missed the good bits !

SF:- Olivia Nicholls (GBR) / Heather Watson (GBR) CR183 (106+77) [3] v Viktoria Hruncakova (SVK) / Dalila Jakupovic (SLO) CR177 (85+92) [2]

So after they both lost in singles will Babos & Zvonareva a) withdraw before their first match b) play a match then withdraw or c) complete the tournament?

 B, A then C

Babos and Zvonareva have reached the final

So happy to see Heather coming good again. I've always loved watching her play and especially seeing her fantastic smile when she wins.

Quite the dismantling in the QF and a very good chance at the final here.

Four games in a row for Heather gets her back from 2-5* and into a tie-break, which she dominates and takes 7-2, finishing with an ace.
