GB is hosting some low-level ITF junior events. Which I think is excellent (wish they'd do 15ks for adults too).
It kicks off with a J30 at Loughborough, followed by a J60 here
And then they're doing the same in Liverpool (J30 followed by J60) in November
(with a J60 in Glasgow and a J100 at Liverpool at the start of Dec)
This event has some very good interest in the girls.
I'm pretty sure that Hollie Smart will have got a main draw wildcard.
And also Edie Griffiths
Which will be our 2009-er dream team (minus Hannah K) in action
And quite possibly Lara Savic? As Lara was part of our World Cup team in summer.
(and Sophya Devas?)
A quali wildcard has gone to young Katie Chen (but that's the only QWC)
In the main draw, the top three seeds are foreign players. Followed by Mia Wainwright, Isabella Walker, Tegan Bush, Sirena Waas and Arabella Loftus, to make up the top 8.
Other players of interest (to me) are Isabelle Britton, Sarah Copley and Alice Wilson-Marsh
In the boys, Harry Lumb is the top seed in qualis, and Oliver Page #2
Wildcards have gone to:
Evan Lendrum (14 year-old and a new name to me)
Murray Watters (14 year-old and presumably the younger brother of Rhys?)
Harry Cornhill (age 14)
Oluwajomiloju Aminu (age 14, who has done very well in Tennis Europe events this year - and I think goes by the name Mo)
Archie Gray (age 15)
In the acceptance list, the top seed is Norwegian, followed by Conor Flynn, Zech Hamrouni, Lawrie Wilkin, Joe Mazinghma, Alfie King and Finn Lester
Lots of seeds lost - ranking and seeding is even more 'vague-idea-only' at this end of the ranking list
Congrats to Hannah Watkins who beat the top seed, 14 year-old Charlotte Pollard who beat the Irish 2nd seed and Eva Senior and Molly Robinson who also beat seeds.
And to 14 year-old Eva Hutchins, Allegra Hodson and Sofia Maine who beat foreign players
Wins for: Ferran Redza, (wc) Rhys Lawlor (2009), Conor Flynn, Rhys Watters, Alfie King, (q) Harry Abel, (q) Louis Hull, Kouros Anssarizadeh, Dan Hughes, Zech Hamrouni, Sai Gandepalli, Joe Mazingham and Finn Lester
Special congrats to:
Ferran Redza who beat the 2nd seed,
(q) Rhys Lawlor (2009) who beat the 7th seed,
(q) Louis Hull who beat the USA 6th seed,
as well as the other GB winners, namely Joe Mazingham, Zech Hamrouni, Alfie King and (q) Harry Abel
So out of the final 8 in the QFs, there's the top seed from Norway and the rest are all Brits
Our two 2009 LTA top picks, Hollie Smart and Edie Griffiths, got wins today. (This will be the first time Edie picks up any ITF ranking points so especially well done to her)
Qualifier Shamiso Ndoro (age 15) also won, as did wildcard Sophya Devas, and Isabella Walker
and Sophia Christodoulou (age 15) did well, beating the 7th seed
So the top two 'pesky' seeds are still going strong, but the rest of the field is now all-GB
In the girls, Edie Griffith (2009) came within a whisker of beating the top seed (losing 7-5 in the third)
Hollie needed a third-set TB to beat Sophya
Sophia Christodoulou (2008) beat the 2nd seed
