QF:  (1) Richard Gasquet (FRA) WR 64 defeated (Q) Arthur Féry WR 362 by 7-5 4-6 6-3  hmm

Decent effort, even saved a match point.

Yep, right in there but dropped his serve at 3*-4 and that was that cry

Very encouraging moving forward though, playing much better than his ranking.

I thought Arthur had taken a year out of college tennis to focus on the professional circuit - am I correct?. If so, it seems to be the right decision - top 100 in 12 months or too ambitious? Welcome your expert thoughts.

Super looking effort by Arthur, very encouraging. Now live ranked 319, GB #9.

It appears that he would have sneaked into the top 300 if he had won today. But that will surely come soon, and then onwards to the top ?

Bittersweet if it knocks Liam out of the top 100 though.

Liam would be be out of the top 100 on Monday whatever Jack did here. He is now live #103.

And with Liam 1) the real biggie is that he did get into the top 100 and 2) he still stands a very decent chance of getting back there if he can pick up a few more points this year.

By the way according to Steven's table in the stats section, it is nearly half a century since we ended the year wirh 5 men in the singles top 100. 1977 to be precise. It would be great to see both Jack and Liam end 2023 there.

Jack is a 55 percent chance to title according to tennis abstract. That would take him to mid 80s. A Ryan title would take him mid 160s.

big week.

ps 1977? Mottram, Cox, Lloyd, Richard Lewis and Colin Dowdeswell

Robin Drysdale was 101 on that list so 5 was so very nearly right.

Jack went up an early break but Luca levelled at 3-3 first set. Next 5 games comfortably with serve until Luca gifted Jack 3 set points in game 12. Saved 2 but Jack exploded a forehand to take the third. First set 7-5 Jack

The second set was fairly straightforward for the most part. Jack held serve easily until being hauled back from 40-0 to 40-A when serving for the match, had an opportunity to break Luca's first service game, which he didn't take, but got the break in his second. Luca took a MTO, with work on his left hip area, but that didn't appear to be affecting his game much. Jack converted his 4th matchpoint 7-5 6-3
