Is Ceban that good or just big for his age? The difference in size between him and his Japanese opponent at Wimbledon was ridiculous.
It's a good question and I don't know the answer
But it's also true that being big is not necessarily an advantage at that age.
If being tall gave a major advantage at 14, you'd expect nearly all the top 14 year-olds to be the tall ones, and then for them to drop out as it evens out
Actually, it's often the other way round.
The tall 14 year-olds are often lower down than they should be, because they're gangly, they don't move well, they don't have the muscle on their frames yet to make their height really useful in generating power. And often the top 14 year-olds are the shorter kids, who run around well, who have far better control of their limbs and make far less mistakes.
Mark appeared to run out of steam today against the home favourite. Mark took the first set 6-4, but lost 8 games from 4-4 in the second. Added to defeat for Hollie/Edie in the doubles QF (plus Hollie in the consolation draw SF) that ends British participation
U14 QF
(5) Tomas Krejci (CZE) d. (1) Mark Ceban 4-6 6-4 6-0
Just to note that the two Serbians who Hollie played in the Wimbledon semis and final ( Dusica Popovski and Luna Vujovic) have made it to the semis in Most without dropping a set. Likewise for Slovenian Svit Suljic, who Mark beat in the Wimbledon final.
To round up the under 14 event the two winners were the players who faced Mark and Hollie in the Wimbledon finals (Svit Suljic and Luna Vujovic)
In Klosters Charlie lost to the eventual runner-up Tiago Pires (beaten by local Swiss player Patrick Schoen). Ariana Geerlings of Spain took the girls under 18 trophy
