Bit off piste but if you are on Instagram follow Mimi, Ranah and Ella. They post some lovely photos sharing time together during competitions including Wimbledon - think it really good to see they are supporting each other on their journeys .

Given lost 6-1 6-4

Hep trails 2-6 3-4* but that is an improvement on 1-4* a few minutes ago, so the break may have come at the wrong time for her.

The break didn't cause Hep any problem - she reels off another 3 games, making five on the trot to take the second set 6-4

Given was playing the young Australian girl, 3 years younger than her, Emerson Jones

She's still quite small but hits a very clean ball , and quite heavy (the ball, not her ), and has some court craft too

Given managed better in the second but was pretty much outplayed

Enjoying watching Hep - she really did loosen up a bit in that second set

Somehow I doubt she'll win, but you never know....

If you are not watching this, you ought to log on now.  Hep leading 6-5 in the final set and had lots of break points on her opponent's last two service games.

Brilliant! I managed to watch some of the match, dipping in and out.

2-6 6-4 7-5 in the end - a mix of stunning winners and disappointing errors, but the plus column just exceeded the minus in the end (helped by a poor last game from the Slovak)

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes biggrin

Watched the last set and a half of that - and, blimey, didn't our Hep do SO SO well

And it was absolute justice

Hep really took the game to Vargova

Who, increasingly, was playing the consistency card - just keep it deep and in the court - but Hep was hitting winners left and right - and a few errors - but really on the front foot - and Vargova stuck to her tactics - until the last game where she made three completely unexpected errors ! And serve her right Hep's game was a breath of fresh air

A crazy match. Hep won 9 out of 10 games from a set and 4-1 down to lead 4-1 in the third but was pulled back to 4-4. She reminds me a bit of Julie Pullin - not huge power on the groundstrokes but uses her lefthanded forehand effectively with some excellent placement. Some smart tennis.

An even tougher potential second round match against Nikola Bartunkova, who plays solely in senior events and has held at Top 300 WTA ranking.

It was a really fun match to watch - Hep was the braver and sometimes wilder player, but thoroughly earned her win.

Ella has started against her Spanish fellow lefty, and it's on serve currently. Not the cleanest hitting I've ever seen so far...
