I was optimistic about the girls ..... less so here.....but when I acutally looked, the other guys weren't quite as scary as their seedings implied:

Henry should have a very good chance - the Indian lad doesn't have anything on his results sheet - he only just scraped through qualis and maybe his R1 match was a bit of a fluke

Viktor's guy doesn't look too scary either - quite young (age 15), a lot of clay on his results sheet....

Freddy is playing the 5th seed, who Henry has beaten twice in the last month. So I assume the young Russian isn't feeling too confident against GB opponents

Henry's Chinese opponent looks very solid. Maybe Henry can blitz him on serve and force tie-breaks

Charlie is playing the guy who won Roehampton so, unless he's got blisters or something, that's going to be tricky

Doubt we're getting four wins here (), partly because we're starting off with two fewer in the first place. But 2 would be OK, and three would be excellent. Would be very disappointed not to get one.

Would certainly be a big improvement on last year with only one boy in the second round (Will Jansen) and no one in the third round.smile

Yes, and it would also be a good protection for people like Mimi who have a lot of points coming off in the next month or two

I'm not sure when entries for the US Open (juniors) are decided

The entry deadline is 1st August so it won't be before then. Still a few chances to earn points!

Viktor has just taken the first set in a tie-break, 8-6

Very tight but, as above, his opponent is good but quite playable

Haven't watched Charlie as I didn't reckon he had any chance, given who he's playing, and he lost 1-6 4-6, which is a respectable score against an absolute top junior

Viktor went 3- 1 up

And then had an AWOL moment - served doubles faults at key moments, just took his eye off the ball (literally and figuartively)

Blanch won broke twice, held twice, and it's now *3-5

I wonder if it doesn't help, being on a court with more of an audience and live commentary? They are still so young.

Well, Blanch is two years younger. And it doesn't seem to be harming him

Viktor has always been very mercurial

But John Lloyd is right in this case - the second half of the second set, especially the game at 3-1, were really poor - with no apparent reason - so obviously just a mental thing

That match will haunt Viktor

What a shame. From the bits I saw he wasn't really outclassed in terms of ability, he just couldn't bring his best game.

Henry Jefferson takes the first set 6-4.

Yes. Or he brought his best game and then really lost concentration just at the key point

The commentators called it 'complete mental capitulation' which I thought was a bit harsh - but they're right as well, these are kids who are trying to be top players, there's no point hiding from the blindingly obvious

Henry Jefferson played a super first set, serving well and taking advantage to get the break just at the one opportunity that he had. It's a long way from won, though.

Henry Searle is winning more comfortably, as expected.

Henry Searle won his first set easily, and the other lad shows no real threat (famous last words but there's no point hedgin your bets every time - he looked a lot weaker than Henry on paper and he is)

Henry Jefferson lost his second set, just one break, but did nothing wrong as such. It was a mirror image of the first set. Very close. Both guys playing well. And Henry missed a couple of shots by a fraction in one service game and the Chinese lad made him pay for it, as Henry had done to him in the first set

Now all to play for

Yes. Not that impressed with Zhou tbh given he's the third seed. Henry did well to break back in the final set.

Poor Henry Searle. A set, 5-4 and 40-0 up on his serve and play is suspended!

Pouring with rain in Kingston, just up the road.

And Henry Jefferson too, leading 5-4* in the third

Just won the first point against serve - he might have got a little momentum there.

But when you say 'poor Henry Searle', at least you'd rather be in Henry's position than his opponent

And it's going to be nerve-wracking for Zhou, thinking he's only three points away from a bad loss

Absolutely! Better to be in the two Henry's position. Hope the break in play doesn't affect their momentum.
