Girls: J300 Roehampton, London, grass (Week 27)

Qualifying starts tomorrow for the traditional Wimbledon warm-up event with a strong field (cut-off around 60-70).  Ella McDonald, Ranah Stoiber, Mimi Xu and Hannah Klugman are direct entries.  Hephzibah Oluwadare, Isabelle Lacy (guaranteed), Imogen Haddad, Hannah Read, Given Roach, Ruby Cooling, Gabia Paskauskas, Daniela Piani and Mika Stojsavljevic are all candidates for the 8 main draw wildcards (Hep may have scraped in without)

Marelie Raath was withdrawn from the acceptance list but has been granted a QWC.  She along with Ellie Blackford and Allegra Korpanec Davies are the highest ranked Brits in qualifying.  They are joined by Ciara Moore amongst others.  The q qualifying draw is available here

Thank you DavidC.  Not sure why Ciara Moore hasn't been given a MDWC, given her current form.  Ditto Marelie Raath.  Same old favs I suppose.  How are WC decided?

Marelie Raath just lost in the first round to a Lucky Loser at Felixstowe

Not sure she's in great form....

Am I missing something with Ciara Moore? Just checked her record and I cant see anything to see why she would get a MDWC here?

I guess it's referring to the fact in the last 6 weeks she's won 3 British Tour events, including the Premier on grass in West Worthing, and was semi-finalist in another.

And she has beaten the q2 seed with the perfect MTB smile

You might have thought that beating the second qualifying seed, including a 10-0 MTB, would give Ciara an easier match against the 16th qualifying seed (the QR1 draw unusually had all 16 matches between seeded non-Brits and unseeded Brits) but that isn't the case. unfortunately Ciara has to tackle Taylah Preston, a former top 10 junior who has been competing successfully on the Women's Tour. She has a WTA ranking of 418, including reaching the Nottingham 25K final earlier this year (lost to Harriet Dart) and won the Nottingham J1 grasscourt event last year.

Marelie only won 2 games, so didn't advance her claims for a Wimbledon MDWC

Several of the girls QR1 matches are still on court, with live scores available here (game updates only - but point updates expected in the main draw, when chair umpires should be available).

Lois Newberry and Brooke Black have also posted QR1 wins. Hannah Rylatt and Erin Pearce are still on court. Both won their first sets but Erin lost her second as into a MTB

Erin lost her MTB but Hannah won in straights to complete the round

 That would make sense.

Tough match against Taylah Preston for Ciara and not surprised.  Australia seem to have a lot of good young players coming through, for sure.  Next time, Ciara.

Good win for Brook Black.

Nothing too unexpected in the wildcards:

Isabelle, Mika, Gabia, Ruby, Given, Hannah Read, Daniela and Imogen Haddad

Something very weird - there's a court 18 - not on the Order of Play but on the livescores

And seemingly Hep is playing the Korean girl, Yujin Kim - who was on the acceptance list in qualis but didn't play the quali draw (like Hep, in fact). No mention of either in quali draw or in main draw....

#confused
