U14 Junior International - Tennis Europe - Category 1 - Roehampton, GB (Week 24)

No prob

Don't know about the qualifying events, sorry

The site says there's a livestream - which I can't find for love nor money....

If anyone knows where it is, that would be really appreciated

Here's the livescores, if anyone's interested:

It all went according to expectations in the girls

Although the others put up a good fight

Hollie Smart won easily

Edie Griffiths (who beat Hollie, just, recently in the grass national championships) lost the first set to Megan Knight (two years younger) but came back to win in three

Lara Savic also did very well to take the first set off the Polish second seed. But lost in three

And Sevil (one year younger) lost easily to the third seed from Czechia

In the boys, the GB interest continues as we have:

Rhys Lawlor

Pavana Nrshinga

in the semis

Rhys will play the top seed, and Pavana will play the 6th

That is very helpful clarification from Colette which saves me from further guessing about the Wimbledon line-up

Boys SF

(1) Ken Ink (EST) v (4) Rhys Lawlor
(6) Matei Victor Chelemen (ROM) v Pavana Nrshinga

Girls SF

(1) Hollie Smart v (3) Jana Kovackova (CZE)
(4) Edie Griffiths v (2) Olivia Sybicka (POL)

Impressive that Jana Kovackova is a year young, born 2010

Don't know the girl.....would have expected Hollie to have a tighter score

But the only time I've seen Hollie recently was on clay - so maybe she prefers clay?

or maybe Jana is just rather good?

Same for the boys, we win one, we lose one

Congats to Rhys, who took care of the top seed, with no problem

And Pavana put up a really good fight

Boys SF

(4) Rhys Lawlor (GBR) def. (1) Ken Ink (EST) 6-0 6-2

(6) Matei Victor Chelemen (ROM) def. Pavana Nrshinga (GBR) 6-3 6-7(3) 6-3

The latter I suspect. She is the sister of Alena, who dominated the Tennis Europe Under 14s last year, beating Hannah K in the European Championships.  Jana won a Category 1 event last month, only dropping 1 game to the TE3 and 2 games to the joint TE5 (joint with Hollie)

 Thanks, David

Another powerhouse of Czech sisters?

I'll put them on my radar.....smile

Well done to Rhys !

Boys Final

(4) Rhys Lawlor (GBR) def. (6) Matei Victor Chelemen (ROM) 7-6(5) 7-6(6)

So, with Rhys already having his spot in the U14 Wimbledon Championships secured (thanks the Nat grass court championship win a few weeks ag), i presume the LTA now have a wildcard they can attribute

Girls Final:

Edie got beaten rather comprehensively by the precocious 2010-born Czech girl

(3) Jana Kovackova (CZE) def. (4) Edie Griffiths (GBR) 6-0 6-3

But Edie is in the Wimbly U14s already, anyway, so that's OK....
