Week 23 - ITF W100 - Surbiton, Great Britain Grass

And she has won a Wimbledon title , not singles, but worth having in your resume

Don't get me wrong - I have no problem with Hev getting a wildcard (especially if it's only one that would go to next in line).

But, unusually, I would also now have no problem with her NOT getting one.

I'm certainly not calling for Hev's retirement, but the longer this goes on and the lower the ranking gets the more probable this is looking. I jam not sure how much fight she has left to get back to the top 100

Her current official ranking is 180 but her live ranking  is 193.Heather's ranking has been falling in 2023 and it is hard to see her getting back to the top 100.

To be honest, I was glad when Heather lost.

It was pure torture.

Play well for a point or two. Just enough, always, to drag things out. But then resort to patting it around, with no plan, when it came to the important part.

I would have no problem at all if she didn't get a Wimbly WC (and I am the one who LIKES wildcards). Madison really is not a particularly good player.

Katie Swan was imperious. Didn't watch Katie B - knew she'd win. Sonay was delighted - her 'team' were bouncing - a real grass court 'suprise' for all of them And, as said, Eden proved my wrong and stayed strong. Good on her.

And, obviously, Isa's win was the real pinnacle today - an excellent show, on centre court, in front of a pretty big crowd (including a very happy Dad). Really took the ball on, and played her style of tennis.

I too am pro wildcards for brits, but to me she would need at least a semi final in one of the warm ups to convince me that she worthy of one.

Agree with this sentiment, would be ridiculous unless her performances pick up, but can we trust the LTA not to be sentimental?

Is there some entitlement to a Wimbledon Wc if you have been part of the BJK team? Heather didnt play but was in the team IIRC.

As Wimbledon is not an LTA tournament they don't select the WCs.

Indeed, but having eavesdropped a conversation between two well known LTA bods a few years ago, the answer is, they do to a large part

Heather might decide to play doubles at Wimby, not singles. Is that possible?

Heather will get a WC. Shes a known name in the UK so will pull in the crowds, and she often pulls out her best performances at Wimbledon - especially her great run last year still fresh in the publics minds.

My feeling is that if Heather cant motivate herself to bring it in singles, maybe she should concentrate on doubles

 Yes, and that's fine

But the doubles with Harriet here was pretty poor too...

Luckily, you can watch about three matches at once in certain positions in Surbiton

There's some nice spots between the courts - between no 1 and 2 is good and not too crowded,

OMG, I've just realised I'm only about 10 miles from Surbiton currently. I could be free Friday onwards. Now that would be a treat.
