I'd be very surprised, and a bit disappointed, if the GB #1 position in a current tight and a bit inherited race was anything to do with it. Her world ranking, particularly aiming to get back into the top 100 in the near future, and the title were to my mind much more important.
We do all our ranking sums here, I as much as anyone, but in truth I just don't think that was a particular issue. More likely just a general pretty big match that she lost on the day. It was a pity but not any great shock.

The top 6 or so British women players are all kinda bunched together in the ranking, jostling like peas in a pod. Until someone breaks clear at the top, I doubt they will place much store in the GB relative ranking positions.

I didn't watch all of Boulter's semifinal, so I maybe got the wrong impression, but it seemed to me she was overpowered by her opponent. The serve especially so. Both players about the same height, long-limbed but the difference in physique was there for all to see.

Not much to reproach herself for but....

I think Katie went a touch flat at 3-1 - she looked as though she thought she could run the clock down

And, to be fair, YW played better - she cut out some of the errors of set one and - importantly - came to the net on important points and put Katie under more pressure

Yes, Wickmayer latterly much more consistent and just a few too many errors from Katie.

Does anyone know what measures professional tournaments have to spot the instances where Swan strikes her serve from the deuce side, even though Wickmayer is receiving on the ad side?

She just needs to be a bit more consistent.
What do you guys think about Katies backhand? My opinion is she could be hitting through the ball with her bh a bit more but maybe the speed of a grass court doesnt let her do this???
