Have you just seen Sonay lead, then get pegged back, then close out two matches that - arguably, especially the first one - she had no business closing out?

AFTER having lost a match in Paris that she 100% had won?

And what about when Katie Swan won yesterday 1 and 0? She was front-running then with no problem.... As does every GB player who wins the first set and then wins the second

I think its a problem in womens tennis tbh, not just the GB women

A big issue in women's tennis as against men's is that it isn't as serve dominated.

Men are more likely to hold leads largely based on their serve whereas there is generally much less difference between how women's serve and return games go. So a not necessarily that great form / momentum change can produce a major effect on who is winning the games. The tennis scoring system can be rather cruel in how it rewards these in general ascendancy at any time.

Because she's a bit unpredictable - which might prove your point smile

But actually I think it's generally always easy for the player who lost the first set to play better in the second

You loosen up and go for things, as you've nothing to lose.

Or you change your play, if you're smart, like Yanina.

Look at the matches at Nottinghan today

Rodionova won the first, then got pegged back and lost the second (and the third)

Harriet v Eden was 6-0 6-4

Mandlik won the first easily and is now 1-4 down in the second

I'm not saying it's always - but it's pretty unusual to be all one way. I honestly don't think our players are any worse than others (I've seem some spectacular collapses in some of the French women)

A fantastic final to watch, and such a great performance from Swan. So many amazing points won, and looked so calm and composed for most of that match. Absolutely nothing to be down-hearted about, the crowd were with her all the way, and the roar when she received the runners-up trophy showed what they thought of her performance. The strength of Wickmayer told in the end, but there were times in that match where Swan showed tremendous quality of play.

Hardly a mention of Swan's efforts this week on the Beeb, you'd never know it is the "British" Broadcasting Corporation. Too busy pandering to the angry Twitter crowd.

A shame Swanny couldn't close it out but given how tight the rankings are its not impossible she could be British no.1 before the end of the summer.
