still 2 mens MD wildcards to be announced - surely they will use them with someone?

We've had years with four wildcards not used - there's no 'surely' about it

Ok - maybe wrong choice of word. Hopefully theyll find someone to use them on. Giles or Dan little could hopefully go on a run this week, however unlikely

Far more likely they're waiting to see who wins Ilkley

Ofner's not in the main draw acceptance list, from what I can see (whereas Kubler is)

If Ofner wins, I think he'll get a wildcard

I can't see any british player getting one

I hadnt realise Ofner wasnt in - yes, indeed, they did that for Koepfer the other year. Made the phone call on court. I guess Ill see tomorrow!

sadly no Brits to see bit the Brits seldom do well in the mens at Ilkley so no surprises really.

Stuart & Dan confirmed with their WCs and one for Harry as well.

Pleased to see Liam/Jonny, Julian/Luke, Jacob/Johannus & Toby/Connor get doubles WCs.  Not sure about bloody Isner, even if he will be playing with Jack Sock.

I've just clocked no Arthur, no Jack and no Anton with qWC. I know Anton and Jack are clearly competing elsewhere but still a shame

Ofner has indeed got a wildcard

As has France's Arthur Fils

Slight questions about Arthur Fils' wildcard - didn't he withdraw from Queens R1? No idea why but he'd played the really long match against Popyrin the day before and I assumed he was slightly injured.....do you give someone who's slightly injured a wildcard? Of course, I could be completely wrong - maybe he was ill, some short bug. (Or maybe he was slightly injured and getting a wildcard was a great way to get the extra recuperation time - although why would Wimbledon care? Fils is a very promising player but he's not getting stop the press headlines)

Even the French are rather confused, with one of the main twitter guys saying:

"Agréable surprise pour Arthur Fils qui a reçu une wc pour Wimbledon."

i.e that Fils' wildcard is "a pleasant surprise"

good to see that - Ofner didnt look at home on grass today but has a solid game and had risen mightily up the ranks this season by over 100 places and his run to the French 4th round was impressive

Im a little confused - I get Ofner getting one and am pleased? Im looking and not seeing any reason for Fils?

 Hence, the 'surprise'

More seriously, I guess it is because he is now ranked 62.
Which is a huge jump in a few weeks since acceptances were closed
And he's very young and one of the 'new young stars'
But it still doesn't get round why he withdrew from Queens

Apart from hes ranked 62 now and Ofner will be 69 ranked next week. Could they be the top 2 ranked players not in via DA? Ie their rankings have improved to level they would get in now as of right if entries were today ?

Thats my guess - they are the two highest ranked players in top 100 now who werent previously accepted and better than the previous cut line.

Someone will tell me there are more and higher but thats my guess. Ofner has the benefit of doing well on grass

The official reason on the draw sheet for Fils withdrawal from Queens is hamstring strain.
