There are no more women left in Surbiton that are in the Wimbledon main draw. So the winner will take 1 WC. But will it be one of the Katies that would get a WC anyway? Or it could be Lily's best chance of getting a WC.
I just thought I'd post up last year's wildcards, to have a 'base, so to speak (I think this was the last permutation, it's from the Wimbledon site, but I know they get altered along the way so please correct if it wasn't the absolute final version)

So Svitolina hasn't used a SR to get into Wimbledon? Odd or is she being a little cynical (or maybe I am) and expecting WCs this year because of the situation in the Ukraine and thus saving her SR for tournaments next year.

I think her WC would have been agreed before the entry deadline. The committee would have been talking a lot to the Ukrainian players about the entry criteria this year and the support on offer to them, so there would have been opportunity to bring up WCs in those discussions. That saves her remaining GS WC for the USO, although as it turns out she no longer needs to use a SR to get direct entry to the USO. Otherwise, had it not been agreed, it would be a very expensive bet to not enter and gamble on getting a WC.

Sounds perfectly reasonable except another Ukrainian could have had that WC and Svitolina use her SR.
Although looking at the rankings the next one would be Yastremska so maybe not
Has anyone seen the Wimbledon WC guidance for this year?
Normally they indicate that they will award a maximum of 8 initial WCs to GB women players ( same with the the men ) prior to the QWC play-offs - ie. a maximum of 8.MD plus Q WCs
That has been stretched to 9 or 10 in a couple of years and then clearly others are later added including the Guaranteed 2 from the play-offs.
Just folk are putting forward a lot of candidates.

Isn't it 8 MD and 9 Qs like normal?
I was assuming it was... as per last year above and normal....

Yes, it is a final maximum total of 8 MD and 9 Q WCs.
I am talking about the total ( MD + Q ) WCs awarded to British players that the LTA indicate will be initially awarded.
OK - sorry - I never knew they actually stated what the initial cut would be or might - I thought it just depended on how many slamdunks there were and how many they were dithering about

Not ! Yastremska has lost in the 1st round of her last 8 Grand Slam singles. Her last win in a Grand Slam singles was in the 2020 US Open before her drugs suspension in January 2021.

Do you mean the guidance for up to 8 recommendations that the LTA put forward to the AELTC for consideration for a WC? Last year's is still the latest.
Her win over Niemeier in Nottingham will do little to boost her current ranking of 195, which will leave her needing a wild card if she is to get direct entry into this years event at SW19.
Asked whether she will have to qualify, she said: I dont know, I have applied for a wild card so I hope I get one.

She's up 29 places to live 166 and brings her back to the rear of the pack. If that's not boosting her ranking I dont know what is. And whether she gets direct entry or needs a wild card was decided weeks ago, she could 'boost' her ranking to the top 50 and it still wouldn't matter a jot to needing a WC. Seriously, is that the quality of journalism from a tennis site?
