RE: Wimbledon wildcards 2023 - women

I don't see KB playing doubles, she's only played 1 pro doubles since 2018. I think Jodie would pair up with either Eden or KS.

I think we could also look to our college women for possible doubles WCs. Nell with Millie could be in line for 1 or 2. Nell did get a couple last year although they were for being NCAA D1 doubles National Champion and #1 in the college doubles rankings. This year Nell with Millie finish at #11 in the doubles rankings and 'only' reached the round of 16, which might not be enough.

I would 100% give one to Nell & Millie

Nell had one last year, and she and Sonay very nearly won

Jodie played with Eden last year (although it was pretty feeble, from recollection)

Good recollection CD. Jodie and Eden lost 3 & 4, Sonay and Nell lost 5 & 4.

I'd like to see Harriet with someone else. Pretty sure she played Wimbledon with Katy Dunne a few years back, Think they are good friends but Katy's injury issues make it a bit of a risk

Harriet and Heather are playing together at Surbiton, so I doubt if they will re-pair with anyone else.

Svitolina is announced on WTA website as a WC for Brum.

Sorry if this is covered above or elsewhere

An email from the LTA this afternoon states that both Svitolina and Venus have wild cards for Birmingham. That makes me think Venus must be planning to play Wimbledon too, which means there will only be limited WCs for our girls. Somebody is going to be very disappointed I think!

I think we should just take a deep breath here, our British women are currently no where near the mark with regard to performance on the world stage - top 64. If the LTA followed the same strategy as British Athletics they would all have lost any funding ages ago ...if they do receive any. I would rather say, I had seen Venus play as an ex Grand Slam or Svitolina who is showing great resilience on her return or even Mirra Andreeva the 16 year old wonder kid,   than a British woman who doesnt really  deserve to be there. I do hope the British women pick up their performance but I think we shall be waiting for Emmas return to inject some class here.

I don't disagree but we certainly should not be giving out wildcards to Russian players, wonder kids or not. It's all very well saying they should compete, but no special favours!

Very happy to give Svitolina a WC for many reasons but Venus really rankles - and I KNOW shes a legend and its irrational, but Id argue shed do better and still get the crowds in playing the actual legends tourney! She is not currently tour quality and doesnt compete as a regular tour player.

If theres only 3 WC for Brits, as there well could be, theyll go to Jodie, Harriet and Katie B Id guess. Poor Hev.

Absolutely agree, watched her play 2 years ago and her movement was awful. She'd be perfect for the legends tournament and that would give ground pass spectators an opportunity to see her.

Just a semi-interesting note in the latest doubles acceptance lists Lohoff is going to play an ITF on clay next week. I wonder if it's possible Emily A has entered Notts with a Brit (Eden?) - rather annoying the WTA continue to refuse to publish full entry lists!

From Heather's point of view she must be hoping/begging  for a wild card  for Wimbledon singles. Her record in qualifying in Australia and Paris is very poor. Not only did she lose in the 1st round of qualifying in both tournaments but she did not win a set either.
