RE: Wimbledon wildcards 2023 - women

Just a semi-interesting note in the latest doubles acceptance lists Lohoff is going to play an ITF on clay next week. I wonder if it's possible Emily A has entered Notts with a Brit (Eden?) - rather annoying the WTA continue to refuse to publish full entry lists!

I think criticism should also be directed at the LTA as well, who have only published the initial main draw entry list and not the other entry lists or kept the main draw entry list up to date, unlike the other 250 taking place next week. But for all the criticism the AELTC get, they have for a few years now by far lead the way on entry lists. If only everyone set their example.

Very happy to give Svitolina a WC for many reasons but Venus really rankles - and I KNOW shes a legend and its irrational, but Id argue shed do better and still get the crowds in playing the actual legends tourney! She is not currently tour quality and doesnt compete as a regular tour player.

If theres only 3 WC for Brits, as there well could be, theyll go to Jodie, Harriet and Katie B Id guess. Poor Hev.

I think all of the wildcards for Wimbledon qualifying or main draw should be down to performance. If any of the British women perform juniors or otherwise they should get the call. Lets face it they gave Emma Raducanu the call after a first round defeat at Eastbourne and she got to the fourth round at Wimbledon and the won the US open.

From Heather's point of view she must be hoping/begging  for a wild card  for Wimbledon singles. Her record in qualifying in Australia and Paris is very poor. Not only did she lose in the 1st round of qualifying in both tournaments but she did not win a set either.

I don't think there is any doubt Heather will get a WC especially as she missed out on ranking points for her run last year but unless her form picks up it will be hard to justify another next year.

I am not a fan of giving wildcards out to players that get them every year but can't win a match, my preference is for youngsters such as Isabelle Lacy and Lily getting them and let your Watsons etc go through qualifying!

That may sound controversial but it's my opinion lol but I am fairly certain Mr Henman will award one to Heather despite what we think

Heather hasn't had a lot of wildcards though has she? She's spent most of the past decade getting in direct?

Thanks again Lambda. From the look of those, it does seem like Heather deserves one for this year. I think it would be a popular choice and she deserves it after being so long in the DA places over the years.

Injured players, former winners, bright young things (for Brits) is my guess.

Indeed, and especially when you add in her Wimbledon run to the L16 last year ( and FWIW not reflected in her ranking points ).

If you add in the 240 points she didn't get last year, Heather would be GB #1 in the next rankings if Katie B doesn't reach the final at Surbiton. Still worth a WC, although her form is way off at the moment.

good note , TA, we forget the ranking impact of some for missing points last year. not just now but all season, and for some it would compound by reducing the events they got into or missing a seeding spot.

Fran has ruled herself out of Wimbledon so no WC for her. Lily could be back in contention with her strong run at Surbiton.
