Neither Svitolina or Fran have entered with their SRs, which makes me believe they have agreed Wildcards. But in Fran's case, whether it is a MD or Q WC remains to be seen.

For the moment I imagine a Q WC but let's see what she can add to her recent impressive results before WC judgement day.
This feels harsh but I'm not sure Heather Watson should get one if it means a younger player misses out. I'd put her in the 'subject to improved grass court results' personally. I definitely do not want to see Venus there again. Watched her 2 years ago and her movement wasn't great then so it would be a waste of a WC and IMO deflect from her legacy.
I don't think this is harsh at all. I'm afraid I don't believe in general wild cards for the 4 majors. I'd only consider players whose last year has been badly affected by injury/health issues or giving birth. I'd possibly consider granting one to our top junior following a competition to win it.
But I'm totally against handing out main draw wild cards to players who have basically underperformed over the last 12 months. The rankings generally reflect how a player has done. I know Wimbledon points do have some affect but we're just rewarding non-success.
I'd rather see the qualifying for the main draw extended down a few notches with players being allocated a place based on the previous year's performances.
I don't buy the argument that our players need the money. Our top players are all mostly comfortably off and not struggling to travel to places such as Japan to play tennis.
I know I'm out on a limb with this opinion but I'd rather see our players qualify properly rather than being rewarded for mediocre performances over the past twelve months. Players should be in the main draw of a major on merit with one or two exceptions.
Some folk are no doubt aware of my views on Slam singles MD WCs. I too am essentially against such WCs for these elite tournaments, apart possibly for tour absence reasons as Harry mentioned that are not covered by suitable PRs.
However, any major change to the common Slam WC situation would have to be for all the Slams. So while I don't like the Slam WC system I am not going to call for Wimbledon to act unilatetally and deny the sort of home WCs that the other Slams give.
Which Brits should get them? Probably the most likely to make good use of them, which will generally be related to rankings, plus at times exceptional younger players. I would certainly give them to our leading ranked non direct entries.
Whatever, we are where we are with the existence of these WCs, and the system isn't going to change any time soon, and who should / does get them is an annual not uninteresting discussion
I like wildcards, any idea when the tickets become available for qualifying??
Hi Oakie
Haven't seen you here for a while? (I still remember seeing you at Wimbly qualifers, ages ago, unless I'm very much mistaken, with your daughter wearing an Aston Villa kit )
I think it's June 1st for tickets

Can somone point me to the post (was it Lambda ?) where the LTA criteria for doubles wildcards were discussed. I can't find it or remember the context.
