RE: Week 18 - ITF W100 - Wiesbaden, Germany Clay

The German pair Emily+ was due to play today played singles and doubles for their club in the Bundesliga yesterday. I suspect that was the reason for the default.

Ah, well spotted, explains a lot.

Default, and not a walkover. I wonder what the story is.

So 85 points and counting - 140 to the winners

F:- Emily Appleton (GBR) / Julia Lohoff (GER) CR357 (171+186) v Jaimee Fourlis (AUS) / Olivia Gadecki (AUS) CR654 (444+210)

Emily and Julia lost 6-1 6-4

But well done to them - good week

Certainly has been. I'm not sure if the LTA doubles wildcard criteria will allow them to be in the running as a pair?

I think the LTA has done deals with the Finnish federation to facilitate that (which seems absurd to me) - like a WC to a Finnish challenger for a British player etc.

If one of our players has a foreign partner we should support that and not split them up to put them in an all British pair . The game is international and individual , not national like some other sports

A British + foreign team have the lowest priority for LTA doubles WCs, and they have to have played 5 events together in the current ranking period.

Priority order is:
1. #1 doubles player + British partner with CR of under 200
2. #1 singles player + British partner with CR of under 200
3. All British Team, both in top 250 singles or doubles and having played doubles in 40% of events
4. All British Team in order of CR or a British junior playing singles draw with British partner and played doubles in 40% of events, or British NCAA doubles champion with British partner in top 250 singles or doubles or junior in singles draw and having played doubles in 40% of events
5. British with foreign partner having played 5 events together

CR is singles or doubles ranking.

I agree with not splitting the pairs - problem is who is Emiiy's regular partner?

She partnered Isabelle Haverlag for 6 tournaments in February and March (no titles).
She has partnered Julia Lohoff for 4 tournaments in April and May (one 60k title and one 100k RU) - best results, so the one to stick with
She partnered Lauryn Jon-Baptiste once and won Nottingham 25k.

Hopefully she will stay with Julia and they will move on up - and get a wildcard.

Yes I agree. We've allowed international pairs in the past (Naomi B and Asia, Tara and Conny, going way back Claire Curran and Grandin).

Emily A's options are actually a little limited, as I'm not sure EWS will still be top 250 after Rabat drops off (and I noticed Em A has being playing ad side with Lohoff, which is the side EWS takes). And Eden is the only other option currently top 250, given we can not unreasonably assume Heather and Harriet will pair up as usual.
