Week 16 - ITF W25 - Nottingham, GB Hard

I know various coastal tennis clubs which host ITF tournaments where the wind is usually horrendous (rather like links golf) - it seems fine to me - it's wind - it's weather - I agree, as long as there aren't chairs being blown threw the air, I don't see a problem - it's just an outside factor to take into account.

Super fight from Hannah to take that first set - Eliz will be mad with herself

The result of this match really does not matter a jot - it's just a way to get started in adults, to feel you have the level, and to get going

Maybe not to Hannah but the match will matter a lot to Eliz. A chance to kick-start her year with a relatively good draw.

Third set coming in Klugman/Maloney. It was 4-4 in the second set tiebreak but a slightly mistimed backhand from Klugman went marginally long. Maloney took control from there, and she has had some success in this match from pushing the ball back in on certain points and betting on a Klugman error. Worked wonders just then.

This isn't tennis. It's a lottery. Who's got the winning ticket?

What a cracking win by Hannah

A really sensible, mature sort of match - adapting to the conditions, keeping her cool, and seemed to be enjoying it

Poor Eliz will be rather gutted to lose to a girl who's just turned 14

But it's like with Coco, people are just going to have to get used to it

If she can win against a player in the top 400 at the age of 14, what is she going to be like at 18?

I like the kids but I'm glad Dani and Emma won - Dani must have felt awful after her SO close loss - nice to at least get a win in dubs

She went close against Bartunkova back in February in a junior tournament who had been as high as WTA 267. so today wasnt a complete surprise. But will be very interesting as you say to how she develops over the coming years.
