Boys & Girls: J100 Loughborough, GB - indoor hard (Week 12)

Thanks !

I'm glad her family are well off

Just a bit weird, in that case, why she hasn't played any events abroad.....

By the way, I wasn't saying that she definitely had no LTA support. It was a question. To maybe explain why she didn't travel (and the fact she's obviously not at the academy)

But, yes, I agree with your general point, TW18.

I know one young player who didn't want to follow the LTA specific defined pathway at 11 and then was dropped because of that. No middle ground. No negotiation. No 'let's wait a year as she gets older and see' .....

But, again, pleased for Maria.

Mind you, I heard recently that Andrew Lewandoski (the coach of Mika) thinks he walks on water at the moment. Rather full of himself. Just hearsay, of course, but.......

Here's hoping it's a good final

Maria has played outside the UK. Her first 6 ITFs were in Africa.

Really? When I looked on her ITF site I got this (but I assume you mean I messed up by thinking it was the full list whereas it's only the last year, is that right? In which case, my bad, sorry - although still slightly weird that it's on

Two very nice victories and winners' points in singles today

'Poor' Maria had to retire, though, leaving Mika (2008) with an excellent title

Mika Stojsavljevic def. Mari Usitc 6-1 1-0 ret.

And in the boys,

Ben Gusic Wan def. Nikita Bilozertsev 7-5 6-1

Mega congrats to Ben (2007)

No joy in either doubles, although desperately close, the boys losing 6-4 7-6(11) (!!!!)

and the girls losing 6-1 2-6 14-12 (!!!)

Well done to Mika and Ben - the second home J100 title this year for both.

Regarding Maria CD you have to click on all activity and extend the number of tournaments displayed to get her first six, which were as Lambda says, in Africa

Thanks, David

Yep, I figured I'd messed up, hence the apology above - oops.

But still slightly weird not to play abroad for a whole 12 months, no?
In fact, not since Aril 2021, so not for a whole 24 months - I've checked a whole heap of others of about the same level and not found anyone else - I assume there must be someone I've missed....

Someone mentioned money and was her family wealthy - I was thinking youd need to be really wealthy to be able to support a child on your . Id say Im a decent earner but to find something like 30k or whatever it is a year to pay for travel etc , and probably 50k for overseas play, no way. Lets say you earn 200k a year. Which is big money and would put you in the top 1-2 percent? Youd have take home of maybe 120k and half that would go on your childs tennis costs, the rest to live , pay mortgages etc.

Tennis is still unaffordable to most Id say.

And, playing in just GB is better for the environment, so cant knock that side of things as an outcome as well!

Maria travelled to overseas ITF during UK restricted play/lockdown with her then UK tennis academy with a lot of criticism from UK based tennis parents

The top 1% in the UK earn around 168K a year so you'd be in even less company!

Tricky. I presume quite a lot of other kids travelled as part of the group too?

You say her 'then UK' academy? Has she changed? Still UK though presumably

Lewandowski.....going on what I know, heard and seen, he's very unpopular, parents fear him, he's vindictive and has excluded players with great promise, for reasons only known to himself.  One girl, who showed great promise, played for her county and was county champ I believe, was side-lined then blocked by him because he didn't like the parents (my understanding).   Disgraceful.  I don't think she plays now (I may be wrong).  Gritty player too and often beat MS I'm told.

Thanks, TW18

I haven't seen very much at all firsthand, just heard reports, so I didn't want to stick my neck out too much, but - put it this way - I wasn't at all surprised about what you said above ::((

No, it's not a good look for the LTA.   They are, after all, only children.
