Week 12 - ATP Challenger 75 - Les Franqueses del Vallès, Spain (hard)

Well this one's another really good looking effort by Billy  biggrin

L16:  (Q) Billy Harris WR 373 (CH 290 in October 2022) beat Oriol Roca (ESP) WR 274 (CH = 193 in August 2015) by 6-2 6-0

******

QF: (Q) Billy Harris WR 373 ( CH 290 in October 2022) vs (7) Marco Trungelliti (ARG).WR 227 ( CH 112 in March 2019)

This week for Billy, combined with the points being dropped by Paul Jubb, will take him into the live GB top 10.

Ali Gray ( also dropping points ) and Billy are both now on live 134 points, live GB #9 & #10, live WR 360 & 361.

That's an excellent win. Wow.

Remember watching Kyle 'battle' past Sr Oriol Roca 'Batalla' all those years ago - actually the last time Kyle was trying to force his way into the Top 500.

Mr Batalla, ran round to his forehand on everything and just tried to smash it.

This is Billys best run at an event at this level. He has mad a QF before last season in Thailand. But that was a Challenger 50 level.

5 games lost in 4 sets - not bad, Billy!

Jay and Lorenzo saw off the top seeds in two tiebreaks biggrin

Saw the last five minutes - Jay playing well

SF:  Jay Clarke & Lorenzo Giustino (ITA) CR 1055 (353+702) vs (3) Anirudh Chandrasekar & Vijay Prasanth (IND/IND) CR 300 (139+161)

If they can dump out the top seeds in straight sets, the third seeds should be a cakewalk.  wink

Make that 5 games lost in 5 sets for Billy in the main draw. Takes the first set 6-0. Havent been watching so dont know if its been excellent  from our man or lacklustre from the Argentinan.

Caught the 2nd set, Trungelliti was competitive early on but Billy in general looked less threatened on serve. I thought he served well.
Didnt see this sort of week coming after the run of ITF events in Portugal!

Probably the top seed Max Purcell next.

Bad day at the office or no for the Argentine, still a remarkable win for Billy!  biggrin  Finished it with an ace, too.  biggrin  Has something finally clicked?

Seems a remarkable week, by scorelines more than anything. It goes without saying the next round will be tough if Max Purcell wins - he qualified for the Aus Open and run all 3 of the recent challengers in Asia to sneak into the top 100.

Think hed have to make the final to get an SE. As I think you have to still be in the tournament when the qualifying starts to get one.
