Anne K vindicated with Harriet beating Katie today

Not so much with Heather and Jodies results though.

No one vindicated, Swan was struggling with injury / stiffness in the 2nd and 3rd sets. Mid-way through the 3rd she talked to her coach and looked like she might retire from the match. Harriet did well to extend the rallies, until the error came.

It must have been tough for Swan to take, she would have had high hopes for Indian Wells and Miami. Despite qualifying for Indian Wells, she played against Bucsa in R1 with her shoulder taped, and couldn't rely on her potent serve. A week or so later, at Miami, the injury was still bothering her.

Let's hope in a few weeks Swan is injury free, and that she does well in upcoming tournaments. It would be great to see.

it was actually me who said Annie was vindicated above, it was largely tongue in cheek, given all the analysis and sub analysis etc that this board puts into each and every decision on the womens side!!

The ongoing picking apart - I actually dont have an opinion (I really know little about Harriet or Katie beyond the headlines), was just being a little mischievious!!

As an aside, I realised I havent watched a single shot of tennis play outside of some hot shots videos clips since Wimbledon last year - I follow the mens game in depth and stalk around here an awful lot more than I should but I dont actually ever watch any tennis!!

I can see it's going to be one of those days .... I'm getting a headache already ....

nah, you should know by now, Baz, I am one of the chilled ones around these parts!! I just like to tempt people occasionally!

Is it possible both Jodie and Katie S deserve time focusing on their own futures at the moment. They've both had a lot of injuries and probably deserve some time either playing for ranking points, training or resting, whatever is best for them right now. Maybe Anne K has given them a free pass.

Absolutely. As above, even if asked, I think Emma turned Anne down. And I would expect that Jodie and Katie S did too. If I were Katie B, I would have done too. But she might have more pressure on her.

I agree re Katie B. She's in the same boat too. It's different when someone is established and had a long time injury free record. In that case you'd expect them to give their time. But Katie has to spread out her tournaments as it is. I hope she's okay after these matches.

Katie B is still entered in the W40 in Slovenia this week, so we'll see if she appears in the main draw when it is made late today. I'm assuming she is fit as she hasn't withdrawn.

I blame Jeremy Bates - as I do for everything biggrin

Global warming, Brexit, covid, tsunamis......you name it... in fact, Katie B's tennis schedule is the least of it biggrin

Given this week's results perhaps it would be best if one of the squad should withdraw to give Jodie a chance instead.

Looking at current form I would think that Jodie, Harriet + Freya/Ali all ought to be considered - won't happen I know !
