Emna will need to play the next ties for the Olympics requirement won't she?

Shame Emma isn't playing actually. Cornet isn't in great form.

I would like to have seen her playing but she hasn't consolidated her comeback from injury yet and the last thing she would want to do is let the team down by pulling out half way through a key match. If she can get fully fit with a solid run of tournaments behind her she will feel more confident about playing for the national team. After all she has not yet had one full year of tennis behind her, 2021 started half way though the year and 2022 was marred by a succession of injuries. I am sure we will see her in the BJK cup in the future.

Yes, Emma continuing to play catch up on her season's prep. A further block with her coach before the clay season ( and of course checking out / controlling that wrist issue ) should do her a lot of good.

One could probably argue various ways at least in the short term, as to what's best for British tennis. But probably makes sense even if she theoretically could play.

Anne K vindicated with Harriet beating Katie today

Not so much with Heather and Jodies results though.

Hang on, before criticising Anne, do we know if Jodie and Katie S made themselves unavailable for selection?

Whatever, too much store can be put on one match, even a match between selection contenders - they are not going to be playing each other in another WTA 1000 Q but being selected to participate in a BJK Cup tie vs France.

I'd probably have gone for Harriet over Katie S right now, partly on previous big matches including BJK Cup, though Katie's general form has been pretty good. However, a 3 set match between the two in Indiian Wells was never going to vindicate or disprove anything.

I'm not exactly Anne's biggest fan but take Emma out of the equation and the team looks fine to me  whether Jodie and/or Katie S were available or not.

Is it possible both Jodie and Katie S deserve time focusing on their own futures at the moment. They've both had a lot of injuries and probably deserve some time either playing for ranking points, training or resting, whatever is best for them right now. Maybe Anne K has given them a free pass.

Absolutely. As above, even if asked, I think Emma turned Anne down. And I would expect that Jodie and Katie S did too. If I were Katie B, I would have done too. But she might have more pressure on her.

No one vindicated, Swan was struggling with injury / stiffness in the 2nd and 3rd sets. Mid-way through the 3rd she talked to her coach and looked like she might retire from the match. Harriet did well to extend the rallies, until the error came.

It must have been tough for Swan to take, she would have had high hopes for Indian Wells and Miami. Despite qualifying for Indian Wells, she played against Bucsa in R1 with her shoulder taped, and couldn't rely on her potent serve. A week or so later, at Miami, the injury was still bothering her.

Let's hope in a few weeks Swan is injury free, and that she does well in upcoming tournaments. It would be great to see.

it was actually me who said Annie was vindicated above, it was largely tongue in cheek, given all the analysis and sub analysis etc that this board puts into each and every decision on the womens side!!

The ongoing picking apart - I actually dont have an opinion (I really know little about Harriet or Katie beyond the headlines), was just being a little mischievious!!

As an aside, I realised I havent watched a single shot of tennis play outside of some hot shots videos clips since Wimbledon last year - I follow the mens game in depth and stalk around here an awful lot more than I should but I dont actually ever watch any tennis!!

Well its nice to be in a position of having a number of quality players to choose from. I remember the days before Bally and Anne came on the scenea much different situation with hardly any players to choose from.

I think Anne had to choose Harriet. I was in the crowd for all of the GB ties in Glasgow last November and Harriet really was the standout player. She was so good in all her matches I was convinced shed be challenging for a top 50 ranking this year.
